Fluval evo 13.5 or IM 20 Nuvo Fusion Peninsula

Recommended Posts

Long story short... back in college used to have 55G tank

10 years later... now back to reef hobby

We have new born baby... so don't have too much budget to start bigger tank just yet....

Thinking about getting either Fluval evo 13.5 or IM 20 Nuvo Fusion Peninsula before upgrading

Eventually this tank will be converted to fish QT or frag QT

If Fluval evo 13.5, light is going to be AI Prime HD

If IM 20 Nuvo Fusion Peninsula, light is going to be Current USA Orbit Marine IC Pro Dual LED light <--- I don't know if this light is good enough for SPS and Clam. couldn't find anything recent enough about this light

I would say main key point is converting this tank into QT later on. Approx. 1~2 years down the road

Equipment

Light: depends on the tank above

Protein Skimmer: No skimmer for now. depends on the bioload might add in the future.

Powerhead: Icecap 1K Gyre or MP10wQD + Reeflink

ATO: Tunze Nano 3152

Media Basket: inTank media baskets

-Stocking List-

Fish

2 True Percula Clownfish

1 Yellow Clown Goby or Neon Blue Goby

1 Lawnmower Blenny <- i like this guy but some say this guy isn't reef compatible

*If possible, 2 True Percula Clownfish and 1 Green Mandarin (using DIY target feeder PaulB method) + one of the goby or blenny

Inverts

Cleaner Shrimp

Peppermint Shrimp

few CUCs

Corals

Softies

Zoas & Palys

Hammer coral

couple of Montiporas

Bubble Tip Anemone

Corcea Clam

any help or tips would be grateful

The IM tanks are beautiful, thicker glass, and better back chamber design.

The fluval is a nice tank too but its smaller, thinner glass, personally don't like fluval's aio back chambers.

Not sure about the currents capability of sustaining clams or high light sps. Definitely birdsnest, monti cap, stylo can be done.

You could do a Chinese box over the peninsula like mars aqua or viparspectra.

You might want to reconsider peppermints. They have been known to eat fleshy corals

Look into the dimensions of the two. This is no apples to apples comprison. The IM14 (dunno if still in production) would be a better tank to compare the EVO against.

Eitherway, the IMs are taller than the EVO.

If you like the deminisioms of the IM, then go with that - you will be happy with the extra gallons in the long run.

I have the EVO and I love everything about it but I wish it came as a bigger version.

I like how IM tanks are low iron glass too!

Yes I head bad things about fluval back chamber. Im thinking about getting inTank chambers if I were to go for fluval.

I really like to get a clam in my tank. I will research on Chinese box!

I didn't know peppermint shrimp go for corals! I wanted to get this guy for an aiptasia. I guess no peppermint shrimp then...

Thanks for the help and all the information!

I think IM 14 is discontinued but also I didn't like the height of this tank.

I guess I was wrong about the IM 14 tank... it's still on production.

IM 14 is 16×12×13 actual display

Evo 13.5 I can't find the actual display dimensions but its 22×11.5×15

I was also watching some youtube videos last night and IM 14 dimensions weren't too bad.

Does anyone know the actual display dimensions for Fluval Evo 13.5?

Does anyone know if IM Nuvo 14 stock pump is ok to use or need to be replaced?

I been comparing two tanks for few days now. If you add inTank media baskets + custom lid for Evo 13.5, it actually cost more. If you don't replace stock pump for Nuvo 14 of course

Evo 13.5 comes with hood with lights that can be used for QT light I guess... hard to choose

You don't have to upgrade but may choose to later. A lot of ppl do on both tanks because of personal preference.

I love mine. I run 1 in each tank.

At first you will hear some noise as it breaks in, this happens with ever pump.

The only time I hear them now is if the room is completely silent and I'm right near the rear chamber.

There are other pumps as well like sicce, tunze, eheim, maxijet.

Good to know! Thank you always for helping out.

I guess no need to change return pump unless it breaks down.

So many well known brands! Hard to choose from

I have the evo and a IM 20 but not peninsula, I've had other IM tanks, no comparison to the Fluval, glass on IM tank is next level.
