ECLS Reefer
Hey all I just got home from a week’s journey and found I have a present- a new, very hairy little crab that living in the tiny holes of a live rock. I’ve had this rock since January so not sure if he’s been here all this time or he arrived by other means. Anyone know what he might be? He’s pretty cute but rather “get out of my face hooman” looking. 🙍🏻♀️🦀 1 Quote Link to comment

I mean, being fuzzy in the male species used to be highly regarded. Even Chuck Norris has a hairy back— see his Lee vs Norris videos... there was evidently a shirtless requirement for fighting. I bet Chuck’s is because he wears a grizzly as a shirt. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thrassian Atoll
Take a look at some xanthid crab photos and see if you can find it. 1 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
So you’re right- he definitely looks like a bristly xanthid, or pilumnus hirtellus. Problem is I’m seeing people say he’s not reef safe, but other sites that classify and identify say it eats carrion. So, are they safe or not and do I need to snatch him up and move to the sump? Tamberav
I would sump him just to be safe as xanthid are generally naughty when they get big...he is cute though. 2 Quote Link to comment

Its in the DT of the SCA. I think I should be able to snatch him and get him in the sump. 38 minutes ago, WV Reefer said: Just don’t put it in the washer. I don’t plan to! LOL. After all the effort you went they for that other one only to give him a very unexpected bath. 1 Quote Link to comment
