Walt looks good!  Tanks looking good.  Don’t do anything drastic about the algae.  Don’t bottom out the nutrients.  Do you have any urchins?  A tuxedo would clean that up.

Yeah I have a tuxedo but he isn’t really doing much besides wearing it lmao. I dont think he likes the dying algae. I have a good clean up crew now. Honestly, my emerald crab has been the best.

Going with an algae scrubber to try and keep things natural. Because im ready to use vibrant at this point lmao.

I have heard good things about vibrant on ask BRSTV but I am still leery about stuff like that.  It’s still pretty new and I don’t really understand what it actually is.

This thing looks like a little alien! Just got it about an hour ago. Might have to move it in lower flow to see it turn into a weeping willow. Its so small. About the size of a penny.

Taking forever to get stuff shipped lately. I believe my algae scrubber gets here tomorrow. But so does a bottle of vibrant.

Im obsessed with this WD. Its always fuzzy and looks awesome. Seems like a half decent grower too.

Duncans. In my precious tanks I have never had them. I couldn’t find them around me but now that I purchase corals online I had to try them.

I picked up an orange hammer from a local reefer the other day. This was the first time I purchase from someone in my local reef club. He gave me two freebies too. But on the pandora palys he gave me, there are two small pieces of green star polyps. I always avoided them. But I might put them on a piece of dry rock and see what happens. They are very bright.

ALSO any suggestions on a bright yellow fish for a three foot tank? Im thinking ill try a yellow coris wrasse again. One day I wish to have a yellow tang, but pretty sure even if I got a small one the 3ft tank is a no no. I don’t want to be ripped apart by the tang police. I just can’t find many options. I need a yellow fish.

^ thanks guys. You added a few I didn’t think about. Tempted to try an angel but heard lemon peels were more likely to nip. I plan to add a clam in the next month. Yellow assessor- forgot about those guys.

Love the blue assessors almost got one for my past tank. It doesn’t seem like many places have the yellow ones available right now. Considered a midas blenny but read they nip at firefish/similar gobies. I really love my zebra gobies so I don’t want to bother with that.

Divers den has a trio of canary blennies, which are a fanged type of blenny. But I am having a hard time finding information about keeping multiples. Some sites say no more than one in a tank, or that you can have multiple just not the same species. They are cheap too. Tempting to try.

Scrubber in. First impressions? Actually seems pretty well made (better be $$$). The light housing feels thick and heavy. Like I could drop it off a roof and it would still be okay. The inside is interesting, I wasn’t expecting regular looking yarn/string. Wonder how they will hold up over time when I harvest algae.

Hope it makes a good home for algae! Never tried something like this before but always wanted to.

KPaquatics live rock just came in! It is beautiful. I did a high salinity dip to try and push crabs out but nothing came out. I bet they are all deep in the rock. I did get a pencil urchin that is alive! Place him in immediately because he was just in damp towel for the trip. Should have taken a picture of him in my hands because he is strong and won’t let go of the rock now lol!

It is early so my tank has a bit of UV lighting so the rock looks more orange but it is a really nice pink coral color. After everything settles I will have to rescape the tank.

Wish I did the whole tank with this rock. I might order another box in a few months and phase out the dry rock.

Exactly 1 month of growth. Just wish I mounted it differently so I could see the color better from this side.

I need a coral port hole so I can start recording the growth of my other sticks. Im scared to hold my phone over the water for too long. Short arms.

Forgive redundant photos. Im just happy, I have never been able to keep acros happy for long periods of time in my other tanks.

Thanks! It was absolutely beautiful rock. Unfortunately all those neat colors didn’t stay long. But its purple and pretty still. My next tank will be 100% kpa rock.

What the tank is looking like now, first dose of vibrant was last night. Ill be monitoring Alk closely as some people report vibrant lowers it after dosing.

Not bad for an Iphone pic. These are crazy orange. But they are called “orange oxides.”

Lovely tank! That hammer coral is amazing! Do you think one would do okay in a newly established tank?

Yes, this was maybe the third coral added to my system even before I added wet live rock. It has always done well. Just keep an eye on your alk/cal/mg.

What’s your nutrient levels?  If I don’t dose my levels plummet.

Well phosphates only measure around .06. However, my frogskin acro was turning brown and I had algae, so I suspect its higher. I was dosing phosphate-E and that acro is turning back to a deep green. I use it now as my “indicator” coral.

Nitrates are unreadable, but I only have an api kit. Just haven’t wanted to spend the money on a red sea pro kit. I have been wanting to feed heavier multiple times a day and add a few more fish. So hopefully I can get a balance going. Even if the scrubber only runs for a few hours a day.

I stopped skimming a few days ago with positive results.

I use the Salifert nitrate test kit.  I prefer that over Red Sea and Nyos.  It’s $17.  It’s quick and super easy to use.  Hanna needs to come out with their nitrate checker.  No clue when that’s suppose to release.  They have it on BRS but it’s not for sale yet.

I saw that hanna test. Before I spend money on that ill let others be the guinea pigs lmao. I heard their calcium test isn’t that accurate, hopefully this won’t be the same. Ill look into the salifert test. I assumed it was complicated for low readings but never actually checked the details lol.

The salifert isn’t bad for low readings.  You just look through the side of it and divide that by ten.  It’s easier to see the color that way.

I just read the Hanna is 0-5ppm reading but you can dilute it to read higher.  Very disappointing.  Most people keep nitrates above 5 nowadays.
