My Watchman Goby is back after being gone for 2 months!

Here's a fish story for you.  I got my yellow watchman goby in early May and he seemed to be doing fine, eating and hiding in his cave.  A few weeks later and a couple days before we were to go on vacation, I noticed he was acting different - staying out of his cave, swimming around almost like he was trying to get out of the tank.  The next day, he calmed down and was back to acting normal.  Then, 2 days before we were to leave for vacation, he's gone.  I can't find him.  I look for him the next day and still nothing.  I'm thinking must have been in distress during the night and got eaten by the CUC.  This was May 22.  I know because we left on Vacation on May 24.

I have a IM 20 and do about a 3-3.5 gallon water change weekly.  Every other week, I clean out the back filter chambers.  I get the siphon going back there and then finish sucking the water out with a turkey baster.  Today, as I'm about to stick the siphon into the left chamber, I look down with my flashlight and who do I see?  I see my frickin' Yellow Watchman at the bottom of the chamber!  I net him out and put him back in the front.  I still can't believe it, but the other times I cleaned the back, he must have been hiding under the 2nd chamber as I know there's a small space there.

I still cannot believe he's alive!  I don't know how he could have got past the filter floss in the first chamber.  The only way I think he got there was jumping in the back and into the filter section?  Unreal.   I'm so happy to have him back!

Nice! I find small fish in the back often tbh...I saw my green banded gobies wiggle around the floss and get back there. One in particular kept going back there on purpose...I am guessing lots if pods and worms and...food particles that get past the floss to eat.

Yeah, I ordered the fish guards from Innovative Marine and they are arriving in 2 days.  I hope my yellow guy can stay in the main tank for the next 2 days!

He's still a baby?  Mine did that when it was small up until I got it a pistol shrimp.  I'm pretty sure when they are small they have a drive desire to seek out pistols.  Soon as I got him a tiger pistol he immediately stopped trying to 'swim out of my tank'.  He would sleep on the sand by the glass, swim against the corners all day long trying to move past it, etc.

Sorry I'm late getting back.  Yeah, I think they helped.  Eventually, my yellow guy grew and I didn't need the guards anymore.  Good luck!
