justinkdenny
So I have been doing nitrogen cycle for a few weeks now. I tested today and got 0 ammonia 1.0 ppm nitrite and like 100 nitrate. Should I redose ammonia again or wait for nitrite to be zero. Also how do I know cycle is finished and I have enough bacteria to add cleaner crew? Quote Link to comment
seabass
Nitrite can lag behind ammonia (although not always). It's not very toxic at marine pH levels, so it's not too much of a concern. The main thing about dosing ammonia, is that you don't want ammonia or nitrite to be 5 ppm or higher (as this slows down the process). You know you have a good biofilter when it can process 2 ppm ammonia down to 0.25 ppm within 24 hours. In theory it should be able to do the same with nitrite, but it's not critical. Remember to change out ALL of your water after you're done cycling. This will export the nitrate, as well as nitrite, ammonia, and leached phosphate. 1 Quote Link to comment
justinkdenny
Thanks. I will redose and check in 24 hrs. 1 Quote Link to comment
