They aren't that popular in reefing, but many people successfully use canister filters if they are kept clean. Generally, we recommend only using mechanical and chemical media in it, as live rock (in the display tank) typically provides the biological filter. You could get by without a skimmer on a 26 gallon tank. Do you have a budget for lighting? What kind of livestock will you be keeping? to Nano-Reef.com. Quote Link to comment
