EthanPhillyCheesesteak
This is the start of the journal for my pest tank setup. So far it’s pretty desolate, except for jerry and a unnamed blue legged hermit crab. Also forgot about some macro algae. You will see a lot of green hair algae, but that’s bc I’m encouraging it with the pest tank. 2 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I’m also in the process of adding more sand for a bigger sand bed. So don’t judge too harshly😁😂. 3 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Let’s not forget about the star jerry ⭐️ ✊. You can see his beady red eye in that picture. I’ll try to get more pictures if he decides to come out. I got jerry from tamberav, so I huge thanks to him. I love the crab already❤️😁. 3 Quote Link to comment

EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Here are a few pictures that I was able to get this morning. I saw him right as I turned the lights on. 3 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I also just checked the salinity and perimeters of the night tank. My salinity was actually a tad high so I did a water change and it’s now sitting at 1.024 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I need some help. Jerry was fine this morning, but I just went downstairs and he was on his back and he was moving kinda slowly. So I uprighted him and he’s just sitting there moving his arms slowly up and down. He looks like this. And the hermit crab in the tank is acting perfectly normal. So I don’t think that it’s an issue with the water? I tested it and all Params are good. Except for nitrate is a tad high, but it’s not dangerously high. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I notice when he is sitting there, he is twitching about every 5 seconds. Could he be in shock somehow? I gave him a really long acclimation yesterday, so I don’t know how he would be in shock? Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Jerry! Hope he is okay, how high was the salinity? He also might be getting ready to molt. I would double check temperature if you haven't, small tanks can overheat quickly. 2 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I’ll check the temperature when I get home. I had to go to work. I’ll be home at 9. Salinity was at 1.026 or 1.027 Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
I keep mine at 1.026 If your hydrometer isn't accurate...could be a problem if it's any lower. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Oh, I thought that 1.026 was at the top of the charts of a good salinity. 1.023 and 1.024 are right in the middle Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Also I think that he is just molting. I came home to this, but he’s still acting funny, so I’m guessing that he may still be molting. Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Hm, probably not good he dropped a leg but hope he pulls though. I am not sure dropping the salinity from 1.026-1.027 in one go to 1.024 was a good idea if he started acting odd after that. You tested ammonia, right? If everything seems to be order, nothing can be done but wait and hope he is tough enough. He killed one of my fish so maybe it is karma 1 1 Quote Link to comment

I need help on what to do. He lost another leg. Something has to be wrong with this tank, so I moved him to my main tank for now. He’s stayed in the same spot for 2 days. He just sits there and slowly moves his mouth and claws up and down. Never very fast. It’s like he’s unable to move. Any help at all would be very appreciated. I’ve never heard of this before 2 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I don’t know if I should try to force feed him, like try to get a piece of mysis into his mouth, but I’m pretty sure this is a really dumb idea. I just can’t figure out what I should do except leave him alone, which is what I have been doing. But things have not changed. I thought that he was getting better bc his eyes were inside his head in the old tank, and now his eyes are finally out and open, but he still won’t move. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Tamberav
Crabs can go a long time without food so I wouldn't worry about that. He might be in shock from the salinity change when you dropped it. I am not sure. I wouldn't bother him anymore and just maybe put something over him so he feels like he is hiding. Maybe a fake reef safe ornament if you have one...like a little cave. You can shoot s piece or two of mysis into the cave for him to grab if he feels like eating. Lower his stress as much as possible. 3 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I’ll have to put something over him later. Do you think that he could possibly recover? I feel so bad bc it’s my fault😢 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Ok, so just to update this tank thread. I haven’t done much in a while bc of Jerry, but I’m now finally started working on it again. I’ve been letting the tank do it’s own thing for the most part, except for doing water changes and checking params/salinity. I like the tank to be dirty, it’s supposed to be for hitchhikers, so it’s supposed to have that dirty look. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
So far I just have some macro growing in there, but I’ve also recently found quite a few pineapple sponges growing. They seem to be taking over bc there’s nothing to stop them. I’m just happy to see that my tank is at least suitable to keep stuff alive. I’m planning to add something here soon to start munching on that green hair algae, but I want a crab and haven’t found anything yet. 2 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I just realized that I need to rename this tank thread Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Ok, so bc there is nothing in this tank except some macros and sponges, I’ve decided to actually add a fish. Well 2. Very small fish. I ordered 2 green clown gobies and they will be here Wednesday. I want to try to get them to be a mated pair. One of them is what the website called a medium size, and the other was a small, so hopefully that will help to determine which one will be male. I was also planning on getting an emerald crab or something for this tank to start eating that hair algae, but they were all out. Quote Link to comment
