Staticmoves
Hello all, my first SW tank. Have had a few FW, but nothing serious. chose the EVO to get my feet wet, and have enjoyed it thus far. Great source of info here at nano reef. evo has: -stock light. -stock filter sponge and media, though I have been changing carbon. Have not seen the need to change from stock sponge as tank has been doing great lately. I rinse the sponge weekly with the change water. - stock pump - PS2 skimmer, works great. - small powerhead started with live sand and “life rock”. tank has been up for 4 months. had diatoms, then film algae, a cloudy bacterial bloom for a day, then a cyano run for about a week and a half. took the advice of the forum and did not dose for the cyano. everything has been great lately with minimal to no algae. Looks like the tank is at a happy balance. I will continue to run stock filtration as it’s been great, I will however replace the sponge every six months as recommended in the owners manual. water changes are 20% weekly. Carbon monthly and media will be twice a year. carbon, media and sponge rinsed weekly with change water. SG is 1.0245 PH 8 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 0 as per API test kit feed pellets once daily feed Mysis with sperlina to rock flower and LPS once a week. stock: - osc clown - watchman gob - skunk cleaner - 3 nerite snails - 3 trochus snails - 1 emerald crab - 1 blue leg hermit - branching hammer - acans - milihead Acropora - branching blastomussa - birds nest - rock flower anenome - branching candy cane - watermelon zoas - Duncan 2 Quote Link to comment
billygoat
I remember seeing your tank in the thread you made about cyano, and thinking "dang this guy has a pretty nice aquarium; I wonder why he doesn't have a journal." And now here you are! 😄 I look forward to following along as things continue to develop. Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Billygoat, thank you. i need to work on better pictures, it’s tough finding the time between work and kids. I hear a lot of people complain about EVO stock setup, so let’s see how far I can take it. i tried to organize rock scape to maximize efficient water flow around entire reef. at the moment, it would appear the nutrients in the tank are at an efficient level, judging by the algae levels. lets see how long I can balance with stock setup. billygoat
Looking pretty good in there! I like the gramma; they are one of my favorite fish. Duncans look very nice as well. Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Having an explosion of new heads on blastomussa. You can see six from this angle, had to coax the heads to close to get a view. 1 Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
So I lost the Royal Gramma 5 days after getting it, for no apparent reason, then lost my clown 4 days later to ich. been a rough few weeks. i am assuming the healthy looking Gramma brought the ich, but that’s pure speculation. my Watchman Goby has been fine, maybe because he lets the cleaner shrimp scratch his back, belly and clean his teeth. ( always interesting to observe) my Blastomussa is still exploding and water parameters have been good and stable according to API kit. 1 Quote Link to comment

I had an ich outbreak and it screwed things up for me and I also had only one survivor. Make sure to keep an eye on your goby and keep him well fed. Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Will do. he lets the shrimp clean him, so I would imagine that is helping keep him healthy. I guess I’m looking at not adding another fish for about 6 weeks. Quote Link to comment

Gravity
Welcome, to Nano-Reef! Sorry to hear about the ich. Looks like you got a nice selection of corals. You get them from an LFS or order online? Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Corals are LFS. Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
New addition, I added some watermelon Zoas a while back, and have been waiting for LFS to frag this colony. Picked up frag for $14 CAD. Anyone know the Hobby name of these? 1 Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Small frag of Acropora encrusting well. sorry about the sub marginal photo. 1 Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Really neat watching this Acropora encrust and new polyps forming on the new base. i’m assuming that means the coral is relatively happy. 1 Quote Link to comment
Staticmoves
Updating journal. had a bout of ich and lost clown and royal gramma. YWMG survived, I chalk that up to him letting the shrimp clean him all the time. what I believe is a milihead Acropora seems to be doing very well. birdsnest fell on rock flower a while back, and had been not well since then, some tissue loss, and other parts doing well. We shall see if it recovers. everything is still stock. With the additions of a heater, power head, PS2 skimmer, ATO and thermometer. also added a frag of plating chalice around back, to give it its own space. Quote Link to comment
