Christopher Marks
I always love bow front glass tanks! What do you have in mind for it @Qball77? It looks like the top center brace was cut out of the top rim, how long was it up and running before? Quote Link to comment
Qball77
It was an established tank for 5 years. It’s been empty and sitting outside for 2 years! I’m starting from scratch. There’s 2 canister filters that I’m hoping still work. There is a chip in the frame on the top that I don’t think was any use it just broke. There’s also a hang on the back marine land filter that I hope is still working. Considering I paid nothing for the whole set up I’d say I got a pretty good deal. Lots of cleaning to do. Kangster911
I had a 72 gallon bowfront freshwater tank just like yours. Mine also had the middle plastic broken when I got it. I had the whole top plastic thing removed and I put a new one. It was not that difficult and internet was by my side when I had questions. Good luck and I hope it turns out to be an amazing tank! Qball77
Well the journey continues! Got the tank filled and lit! Got a great deal on all my equipment so far. I’m only $200 in! 3/4 of the equipment came with the aquarium so all I’ve paid for out of pocket so far is the light. Equipment: 75 gallon bowfront stand and hood penn pax 1200 canister filter marineland 350 current USA marine led 48” 300w aqueon heater 30 pounds of dry rock so far for my aquascape. I’m working on that now so the pics of my aquascape will follow. For now it’s just a seeded piece out of my other tank. Let the cycle begin!!!!!!!! 1 Quote Link to comment
Qball77
Well I think my aquascape is complete. Lots of glue and putty later and I'm happy. Can't wait to start filing it with corals! 1 Quote Link to comment
Qball77
Well let's see how this goes. Got some $5 frags of GSP, long polyp toadstool, sinularia, and a rasta zoa. Kinda worried about the sinularia tho. He's the only one not having polyp extension. And this cardinal! He is the only one of 3 that survived the quarantine tank and he just won't give up in the dt! The CUC is doing amazing work. 3 days ago my whole tank was covered in brown algae! They've almost got it completely wiped out. I will give a massive reminder to dip ur corals no matter where you get them from tho cause I found a 1 inch long spiky looking worm on my toadstool in the rock that it came on. While in the coral rx, the worm made its way out but wouldn't let go if the rock. I had to cut a big piece of the rock away so the work didn't go into my DT. I also found some kinda shrimp in my dip mix that didn't survive. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS dip ur corals! I got mine from a very reputable online site that I've purchased from before. Happy reefing! Qball77
Well things are looking OK. The new corals are thriving. My cleanup crew has done a remarkable job in my rock and sand have gone from a dull brown to a nice white and tan. My cardinal is still hanging in there. It’s been a month since I got this bad boy up and running. My parameters have been checking out pretty even with every test. I test about every other day since it is a new tank. I was able to install some new equipment this week. I found a wave maker on Amazon for $70 and it seems to be doing really well. It moves a lot of water and definitely creates a nice wave. I also bought a protein skimmer from Amazon. I was doing lots of research on the best protein skimmer on the market, but since I don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend, I ended up with the aqua top hang on the back skimmer and I must say it is working magnificently. According to all the videos on YouTube it takes a while to get dialed in, but I have been able to get it to skim with no problems after just three days. All of the reviews online said that it was noisy and did not produce any scare I have been able to get it to skim with no problems after just three days. All of the reviews online said that it was noisy and did not produce any skimmate, But it’s been working fine so far. Here are some tank shots. Happy reefing. 1 Quote Link to comment
