I bought gyre 1K and pretty impressed with the flow, currently running just one in the tank. But thinking of going with two.

The 1K is a great little pump! Ran 1 on my jbj 45 and Then 2 on my reefer 250. If you can find one of the ice cap battery back ups it will run a single 1k for at least 4 days. I switched it back to regular power after that.

Im just going to stick with the tunze 6040. I have it in a sweet spot and  dont really need more flow. I guess i was just was looking to swItch it up a bit.

Unplugged the main outlet from the wall, Drained about 18 gallons of water out and one guy on each side was more than enough to pick it up enough for my son to slide the dolly under it. It was smooth sailing from there.

So.... it was a busy friday. Reef Breeders Photon 32v2 and Reef Breeders Prism ATO. Painted the Cad Lights PLS-50 Elite v2 skimmer black to match. Painted the gold stripe on the photon to match the stand. Made a “weathered” galvanized steel pipe hanging mount for the light. Changed the IM desk top reactor out for a much larger Two Little Fishies unit..... oh and removed one of the bta’s, which, made my gold nugget clown lose his f***ing mind. He gone!... Got a neat little Ocellaris Clown and a sapphire damsel to replace him. Somewhere in there I sprinkled in some new frags.

Any way heres some pics!

Next step will be adding the 2nd Tunze 6040, with the cable to link them together.

After that the new acrylic lid to replace the stock IM one because.... yeah.

Dude, very nicely done on the various projects and the coral collection!! 👍👍

Thanks man! I started looking through your build earlier. Very intriguing so far but I’m only a short ways in yet.

Hmm, intriguing wouldn’t have been my choice of description 😂. But glad you found it interesting so far.  There are a few highlights sprinkled in here and there, but a lot of nothing in between.

Last week I was looking at the tank, while trying to shoehorn the second Tunze 6040 in, when I realized a minor re-scape was in order. One reason is because I could not make the second powerhead work with the original scape. The main reason was the recently added acros just didnt have the space and positioning they need. I also took the opportunity to thin out some of the corals I could live without. I then got ahold of an apogee par meter and tuned the lights to what I wanted. Even after all of that I still couldn't get the flow right with 2-6040s so I pulled one back out for now.

Here is the result:

Alright guys, i thought i was done but i ended up with two more corals last week! Any way i have the green slimmer in a good soot but was trying to figure out where i want the new torch. In the process i started thinking about moving my euphyllia that are compatible to the sand bed and having a euphyllia garden. That will eat up quite a bit of sand real estate though. I like the open sand bed but also like the gardens i have seen folks put together.

Would you go with a garden on the sand, garden in the rock, or place them in various places around the tank?

Really nice looking tank! It's great to see what others do with a 30L as well in order to get some ideas! I've got one going right now (the ext version) and love it so far - no build thread yet though. Maybe blend the two ideas and do a euphyllia garden that starts on lower rocks, but extends a bit onto the sand bed? Sure you already know, just don't get your torches mixed in there. Looking forward to seeing progress!

I like this idea! This is why a forum like this is so great. Some times you just get stuck and need a different perspective. I looked at this thing for two days and didn’t think of that which seems pretty obvious now.

BTW a 30 EXT will probably be my future “upgrade”. That extra space inside would really open it up!

Awesome, and yeah, it does feel like quite a bit of extra space. I was running a Nuvo 20 before - great tank, but definitely an upgrade now 🙂

The new corals and placement look good!

Removed the 6040s, replaced them with 1 Aqamai KPM. This seems to be a glow more like what i was wanting. It doesn’t beat anything up, sand isn't blowing everywhere, and everything is getting flow without water blowing out of the tank. Right now its mostly ranging from 5 to 35% on various modes, with an occasional constant flow at 40% for 30min to just push everything to the overflows.

Pretty satisfied, its a more gentle flow pattern but its also capable of more gph than the 6040s.
