Awesome new light @ef4life! How is everything acclimating? Are you going to start low and ramp it up in intensity over time? Lighting changes can be a bit of a shock.

So far everything is good, They have a acclimation program in the app that Ramps up slowly from 1% to 50% max on the blue channel, less on the other 3. I slightly modified it to say on longer since I use my tank as sort of a wake up alarm in my bedroom. I like the blend of colors in person at all channels equal or close to equal intensity. It’s not overly blue or white, very pleasant to look at, and the corals look good, favoring one channel over another it really can start to look weird.

the bacteria bloom/cloudy water is still hanging around which I Know had to be caused by the new light, skimmer has been going crazy ever since I installed the light, filter floss has been getting clogged up daily but still looks clean. So far everything is happy still regardless of the cloudy water.

dislikes - programming app could use some work. And I wish there were 5-6 channels for colors instead of just 4. The white channel is really green and ugly if you try and turn it up more than the blue. But it is fun to just turn on the uv channel for a minute, turns the tank a dim purple but the certain coral colors just glow and look insane.

Here’s a picture of the program im running - starts at 7am with the blue and uv. White and red channel kicks on at 9. 30% at 12pm, 40% on blue. All channels Peak at 5pm - blue at 50%, uv 40%, white and red at 30%. White and red ramp to 0 at 9pm, Blue and uv ramp down to 0 at 10pm. The colors of the graph don’t correspond with the colors of the channels which is just one change I would like Orphek to make.

Small update, had a few losses a week or so back the serpent starfish died, not sure why, and this morning I found my cleaner shrimp dead. He must have molted during the night and died right after, maybe was attacked by clownfish since they have eggs they are taking care of not sure.

i also think the new light has been too intense for the euphyllia, about 3 days ago I started to see brown slimey stuff coming off of it - brown jelly disease. I caught it early, grabbed the coral and did a 30minute dip in revive and used a syringe to shoot water all over the coral to really clean it good. I put it into the refugium which is now a improvised frag tank since all my algae died off. It’s making a full recovery under the week Kessil h80.

since I put the new light up I’ve been having a cloudy “bacterial bloom” I guess. With dumping the skimmer cup 2-3x a day and filter socks changed 1-2 days I feel I am finally getting it under control. It was pretty clear the last 2 days, I Did a 10g water change today and it’s looking back to normal, hopefully the filters will last more than 1-2 days now.

the 29g biocube is also suffering from a bacteria of some sort, the water hasn’t been cloudy though. Chaeto has been dying off, filter floss gets slimey and clogged up really fast. Mushrooms - especially the green ones have lost color and don’t fully open up, a bunch have been detaching from the rocks and floating around usually 1-2 a day now. Tank still looks good but not great. Even with the chaeto dying off I still get no algae growth in the display even on the glass, it’s been a clear slimey stuff on the glass once every 2 weeks when I clean it.

Water is still cloudy, it has seemed to get better than boom just back to square one again. Skimmer was pulling out some very airy foam, have beem emptying it 2-3x a day, daily changing of filter socks since they were clogging up. So today I pulled out the entire upper sump tank to sterilize it. Pulled the skimmer, filters, all pumps and soaked in bleach, cleaned any tools and scrubys I use. So now im sumpless and just running the 40b with a hob filter and hob skimmer. I won’t put the upper sump back until I get the bacteria situation fixed.

so frustrating

Been a while few weeks since an update, last Saturday I put the upper sump tank back on, and filled it up. Took the kessil from the new 365 pico and put it back in the sump tank where it was before, I’m using it not to light up all the frags I have. Skimmer is still pulling out crazy foam and I’m emptying the cup 2-3 times a day. The water is clear now but has an odor to it that starting with this bacterial bloom. Filter socks have been clogging up again over night so I’m just not going to run them right now. I found a giant aptasia, so I need to deal with that before it gets out of hand. My purple monti bleached during the cloudy water episodes, it’s 90% dead, but recovering now.

the biocube is doing ok, still having mushrooms detach from the rocks daily, at the rate they are detaching I might not have any left on the rocks in 1-2months. Clear slimey filter floss is happening to that tank too but not as bad.

Been a while since I did any updates.

Biocube has still been loosing mushrooms, but I think it’s finally stopped, haven’t had any more detach in 2 days. It was weird it only effected the red and green shrooms. Anyways I only have 13 reds left in the tank and probably 40 greens.

The 40b is starting to look pretty good, all the sps seems to be growing well, the lps is making a comeback, euphyllia is looking really good and growing. To get my phosphate and nitrates up from 0 I’ve been feeding pellets 2x a day with an auto feeder. 2 frozen cubes a day, a scoop of reef chili, and a scoop of reef blizzard.

Cleaned and did a 10g waterchange on the 40 today, everything is really happy, things are growing really well, I’ve been feeding a ton daily to get my nitrates and phosphates up a bit. Auto feeder drops pellets 2x a day, Ive been feeding 2ml amino,  1ml each Red Sea abcd colors,  1 cube pe mysis, 1 cube marine cuisine, 1 scoop reef chili, 1 scoop bright well reef blizzard, 1 scoop benereef, and with the new little tiny yellow tang nori is in the tank 24/7. Phosphates jumped up to .12 this week from .04 last week, I think it’s mostly from the nori. Nitrates are still at 4.

Things have been going well in my 40, fish are happy and healthy, no algae, corals growing.

I ordered a few weeks back from cultivated reef, fedex screwed the delivery and I had to rush to pick them up. Everything was ok, the sps frags I got looked pretty rough but are starting to recover.

I just bought this zoa rock rock from a guy breaking down his tank. And I bought a new light for my makeshift frag tank. A 24” reef breeders photon v2+. I wanted a 16”, but they have all been out of stock and the 24” was just a few bucks more. The color spectrum while proven to grow corals, is just disappointing compared to the orphek on my display. I don’t think I will ever but another light besides the orphek.

It’s Been a long while since I posted any updates. The tank is running great, I’ve been keeping up on maintenance and stuff and everything’s been growing. Randomly lost my green slimer frag recently.

fish are all doing well - fat and happy.

Some coral porn from the 40b. Everything is growing and looking good, except a couple acros have been so so. Not sure why. Nitrates were down to 0 so maybe that’s it, and calcium was low at 370, so I’m going to increase my dose to get it back up over 400.

Everything is doing well in the 40g

Didn’t bother cleaning the glass tonight, and I broke out the camera portal to get some top down shots. New 10-22 wide angle lens I picked up for the sale Is really cool.

It’s been a very long time since I updated this, but both tanks have been chugging along. Lots of growth in 40g. But these tanks are getting old, so I went over to petco
