Nano Rob
I just want to say hello to the whole forum, this is my first post. I’ve been in the hobby for about six months, actually my father-in-law was the one who introduced me to it. I’ll never forget the first time I saw his aquarium, and I thought to myself this is what I want to do. It has been a very enjoyable and sometimes frustrating journey. I love a hobby that requires patience and constant learning so I am looking forward to learning something from everyone here. This was when I first added water to the aquarium on October 8, 2018 and this is the most recent pictures of the aquarium. I have a mixture of SPS, LPS, and soft corals everything is growing very well, I wish I could improve the coloration. I do apologize for the tank looking overcrowded, i’m in the process of building a much larger aquarium. In the beginning I thought this was the only tank I was ever going to need, I thought wrong. 🤣 9 Quote Link to comment

Christopher Marks
Welcome to the community @Nano Rob, your nano reef is coming along nicely 7 months in! How long have you had your SPS collection going? 1 Quote Link to comment
Nano Rob
Thanks, My first piece of SPS went in the tank November 2018 here’s a few progress pictures of some of them. 3 Quote Link to comment
Nano Rob
I purchased this frag in January from the Lancaster PA frag swap 3 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Welcome to nano! The tank looks great. Colouration might be due to the lighting. You can't customize the spectrum with the stock light, that's all it might be, the corals look healthy otherwise. I think we all think we will do 1 small tank....I have 3 currently and a qt(its an addictive hobby😁) 3 Quote Link to comment
Nano Rob
Thanks @Clown79 I removed the stock lighting four months ago , and put two current orbit marine pros on it. They seem to do a great job at growing coral, it’s the coloring up aspect that I am a little disappointed with. I do plan on changing the lights again to a hydra 26 HD in the coming months. 2 Quote Link to comment

It could be the spectrum. Are you running high whites? What are your phos and nitrate levels at? Quote Link to comment
Nano Rob
@Clown79 I’m running my whites at 40% also the lights are 3 inches above the water. My phosphate and nitrates are undetectable on the API test kit. Quote Link to comment

Red Sea seems to be okay too. Can't wait to see your tank when it grows out a bit more. You look like you're off to a good start. 🙂 Welcome to NR, btw. 3 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
40% white is pretty high. The more blue, the more colour pop. 0 nutrients is another issue. I find api nitrate equivalent to salifert, I use both and my results have been the same. Api phos on the other hand is a high range test kit, it's useless for reef set ups. The Hanna ULR is all I'll use for phos. I never got readings with salifert. 1 Quote Link to comment
Nano Rob
Thanks, I will work on slowly turning the whites down and looking closer at my phosphates and nitrates. That totally explains a lot, I am running a bag of chemi pure elite in the back sump and growing a ball of chaetomorpha. Quote Link to comment

It also prevents other nasty things like dino's. I always ran low on nutrients in my 25g and since getting my nutrients up, my corals have been so much better. As the hobby advances so does the research and knowledge. Lots of info online reporting better results with moderate to higher nutrients than with low or none existant. Quote Link to comment
