want2nano
Thank you all who have posted in the forum! I have read about everything here and I still decided to go ahead with a nano. I plan on taking it slow and doing things as right as I know. I have a 32 gallon BioCube with the stock filtration (filter and carbon) Aquatop MaxFlow circ pump 256 gallons per hour Heater (tank is 80F) 30 lbs of live rock 20 lbs of Caribsea sand premix water (redsea) My numbers currently Salinity is 1.025 PH is 8.0 Ammonia is 0 PPM Nitrite is 0 PPM Nitrate is 0 PPM How long before my tank will cycle? Anything I should do differently? 4 Quote Link to comment
Joevember
Add in some form of nutrients to fuel your bacteria and to get your cycle going. You can either do ghost feeding, where you put in fish food for the bacteria to break it down, or you can add an ammonia supplement. It's also a good idea to put a bottle of live bacteria to help your cycle, even if you start with live rock and sand. We're always happy to help! 😄 2 Quote Link to comment
want2nano
Thank you, I will add tomorrow. Quote Link to comment
colinadam
You can get a bottle of Bio-spira along with a clown and fly through your cycle. Add the Bio-Spira (Entire bottle), and then a clown. Feeding it will cause the ammonia and the live bacteria from the Bio-Spira and your sand will break it down. Don't go more than 1 hearty fish and pick one you want to keep long term. Anything I should do differently? Welcome to NR! 😊 Looks like you are off to a good start. Few questions: Have you dosed ammonia or done anything to kick off the cycle? Did your live rock go straight into your tank? Is it actually live rock? Do you have a test kit? 1 Quote Link to comment

Clown79
Is it established liverock? Do you see feather dusters, pods, coralline on the rock? If so, you shouldn't go through a cycle since it's already cycled rock. If it was from a container with a bunch of wet rock that is full of detritus, then it will cycle on it's own. No need to dose ammonia. Adding biospira won't hurt anything with either rock. 2 Quote Link to comment

It is established liverock, I see a lot of coralline and some tiny little white things on the rock waving at me (fetherdusters?) I will check numbers again tonight and see if anything changed. 2 Quote Link to comment
