February 2021 Update: Got rid of aptasia, added some new coral.

January 2021 update: Did not update for over a year

Original tank update:

Hi! This is my tank. I like it very much. I hope you like it too. This is my second saltwater tank.

All pictures are taken with a pixel 2 with no gel filter and no editing (I'm too lazy to do any of that).

Parameters:
Salinity - 1.025
Calcium - 420
Alk - 7.9
Mag - 1320
Temperature - 77°F
Nitrates - 10
Phosphates - 1

Equipment list:

  • Tank:
    • 40g Mode Aquarium
    • 15g Sump (about 10g of water in there)
    • Some heater
    • Hydro Smart ATO
  • Filtration:
    • Reef Octopus Classic 110 Space Saver Skimmer
    • 40Lbs Base rock
    • ~20lbs live sand
    • Bag of activated carbon
    • BRS 6 STAGE DELUXE PLUS RO/DI SYSTEM
  • Lighting:
    • 2x AI Prime
  • Circulation:
    • Hydor Koralia 425
    • Jebao Return Pump

Husbandry Schedule:

  • 5 gallon water change once per week
  • Fill ATO container once per 2-3 weeks (5g container)
  • Clean glass / empty skimmer cup as needed

Stocking List:

  • Fish
    • 10 Clown Fish
  • Inverts
    • 4 Trochus snails
    • 1 Cerith Snail
    • 1 Nassarius Snail
    • 1 Blue Tuxedo Urchin
    • 1 Fighting Conch
  • Anemone
    • 1 Green Haddoni Carpet Anemone
    • 7 Bubble tip anemone
    • 4 Rock flower anemone
    • 1 Maxi-mini carpet anemone
  • Coral
    • 1 Orange plate coral - RIP
    • Elegance coral
    • 2 torch corals
    • Some GSP
    • Sun coral
    • Red gorgonian
    • Some acans
    • Green Candy Cane
    • Green Monti Cap - RIP

Feeding:

I usually just feed a blend of whatever I have to the clown fish and the leftovers get picked up by the NPS corals.

I spot feed the anemones silverside once a week but will probably start feeding them squid since the clowns won't eat it.

Lighting Schedule:

image.thumb.png.14f903edc6506703450472d96a3a5a30.png

Plan to add:

  • Algae reactor
  • Auto roller mat
  • Replace lid with something else

Wow! Ten clowns, do they fight.  I have always heard you couldn't have more than two clowns in a smaller tank, but yours look happy.  You have lots of things from them to play in.  I like your tank.

They should be fine. I had 6 in a 55g that did great. Different kinds too. The dominant pair did their thing while leaving the others alone.

The anemones Look awesome in this tank.

The clowns look to be siblings...a clown only tank with clowns all from the same clutch isn't that out there. Bulk reef supply has one with 30?? clowns.

Yeah they do fight a bit every once in a while but they usually leave each other alone. I tried to do my aquascape in such a way that if they do fight there are places they can run and won't be seen. Im glad you like it 🙂

Yeah all the clowns came from the same place. One does look different though so he gets picked on alot.

Nice setup there

How's the light doing for you so far?

And is it the HD?

Thanks!

Yeah, the light is an AI prime HD.

I've used this light for over a year now and its been pretty good for me 😃

I got my fighting conch and a candy cane coral 😃 and stopped using a filter sock because I was too lazy to change it out.

I also got a frag of eagle eye zoanthids and a montipora cap frag to see how they would do in my tank. I tried an acro a few months ago, but that died so I thought it was time to try a couple new things. I will add pictures of them later.

Thanks! I doubt the gsp will out compete the anemone on the rock, but hopefully it takes over the walls 😃 Im planning on just letting it grow and see what happens to it.

I got a new frag rack to try to give my tank a bit more dimension to it since my rockscape kind of cuts the tank in half diagonally. While I was at it, i got this leather coral frag 😃

The green plating monti looks like its bleaching so i'm not sure what to do with it.. I moved it to a different spot to see if itll like it more being farther away from the anemones.

Here you go!

All the anemones are doing fine and I still have all 10 clown fish 😃 I moved pretty much every coral that was on the rocks onto the frag rack that I bought because the anemone would start stinging them. I am considering getting a second AI prime HD to get better light coverage over the whole tank.

Thanks so much!

And update since the last time! I got a couple rock flower anemones and a green bubble tipped anemone with some orange tips!

I also got a second ai prime because I read online that my anemones will bubble again If i had a stronger light.

Doin my update =) I had to wait a while to see how the second prime worked out. Some of my anemones have been bubbling up again since I added the second light. Some of the larger ones are still super long and stringy but that's okay (The ones that are startin to bubble up are the 2 on the left and the 2 on the right)!

Here are some of the full tank shots I took!00000IMG_00000_BURST20190623195009495_COVER.thumb.jpg.b150df554901abf552637df8fe20d9f8.jpgMVIMG_20190623_194551.thumb.jpg.bd81bc9feac9b65f6e2dc9cc36491e51.jpg

July update!

The tank looks just about the same as before, my nitrates keep going up and my phosphates are pretty high but everything still looks good! One of the anemones grew to about 10 inches in diameter and just split today into 3 parts. Another anemone split into 2! So now i'm up to 12 bubble tip anemones in my tank.

I got a second carpet anemone that is a neon green and has been eating very well in my tank =)

The GSP wall continues to take over the left side of the aquarium and the right side with the clove polyps and the leather coral are finally starting to take off and grow!

I'm still not too great at taking pictures since everything looks really blue but here are some pictures!

The acans are growing new heads

Here is a very blue full tank shot! All the anemone are doing great. The elegance coral is not. I tried to move it to a different position but it seems like it is too late. I should probably remove it from my tank soon.

Any suggestions on what to try to put in the front center of my tank?
