ECLS Reefer
Been a while, but the tank is doing well! We have pods!!! Lots of pods in the refugium! And the red Ogo algae seems to be doing well, which is a victory in and of itself. The fish are all well except for Mac the wrasse, who is dealing with swim bladder issues. He’s been in QT for almost a week, trying to poop out his issues and medicated with metronidazole and sulfathiazole. Today he started swimming more and actually has green poop rather than white. Progress! He still swims pretty stupid though, so he’s got more time in QT ahead of him. Coral row. JJ peeking out from his shipwreck. One the horror trio- either Michael or Freddy. Pinky the strawberry crab PODS!!!! 3 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Don't tell my husband, buuuuuut, I saw a multi-color hammer I just couldn't pass up at the LFS. It's so pretty!!! 🤩 Looks like Euphyllia row now. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Well, it's been a crappy couple of weeks for me as a pet owner. Had to euthanize poor Mac tonight. Whatever initially caused his swim bladder disease, in the end it was the big head injury he gave himself flying out of the tank in the minute I was adding in medications that did him in. Poor dude. Had him in QT for two weeks, and he never really improved much, stayed upside down and uncoordinated. At least he's not suffering any longer. Had a maintenance day on the sump-cleaned algae off the glass, changed the purigen and phosbond bags out, rinsed the matrix and denitrate. Seems to be doing well, with the pods and the ogo chugging right along in the refugium compartment. Display tank looks good, everybody getting along! So other than poor Mac the wrasse, the tank is doing well. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
The tank is doing well!! Still plugging along, not needing major water changes since I returned from my short weekend trip. It makes me SO happy to not have to constantly change water in the tanks! The Ogo algae seems to be cooking right along and growing now. The pods seem to like their refugium home, and there seems to be pods in the DT if how the fish are picking at the rocks is any indication. Today I got a purple long tentacled nem in, 3 new cerith snails (I was down to only 1 I THINK. Hardly ever see the dude running on the surface so it's hard to know how many are actually in there). Also received two green mandarin dragonets today. I honestly don't remember ordering 2, but I've been sick all the last week and had periods of stupidity due to meds, so who knows if I ordered two or just caught LiveAquaria on a generous day. At any rate, I now have a male and female pair, both of good size. Puts them in the same size range as most of the other occupants of the tank, with the coral beauty angelfish and the bristle tooth tang being the two biggest. The two seem to have settled in and have started exploring the tank more, out of the little corner they initially picked to hide in. I am leaning toward calling them Skitter and Flitter. But, I'll have to wait on a vote from the rest of the family. Purple long tentacled nem. New male mandarin Tango, the bristle tooth tang. Tango FTS 5/30/19 Top down shot New light bar for tank lighting in back. The horror twins, Michael and Freddy. 3 Quote Link to comment

ECLS Reefer
So, todays been a crap day, and only a few rays of light. One of them being I was able to pick up a cheap, but really pretty little torch at the LFS while getting some other things there today!! One of the horror twins cleaning a zoa Not sure what's gotten into the gorgonian, because it's been pissed at me for a while. But moving it back into the lagoon and blasting the crap out of it with flow evidently floats its boat. New bright little torch 2 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Did a small water change yesterday-hit the three week mark and nitrates were at 20. Everything looked good, except for the Elegance coral and the gorgonian which both have been giving me fits trying to make them happy. The mandarin pair are doing great, and my kids and husband are in love with them. By far the darlings of the big tank. It is SO hard to get a good shot of this guy, and make him actually appear scarlet. 2 Quote Link to comment

ECLS Reefer
Today I added a very small raspberry eye chalice. It already seems to have issues for some reason, like holes appearing for no reason I can fathom. I hope it stops that. The elegance coral that I've struggled with for so long hasn't given up the ghost just yet, and I can't tell which way it's going to go. I hope it can pull thru this bacteria weirdness it has. All the fish and inverts are doing well in there though! They let me move some stuff around today (didn't get a picture of it, so I'll have to do that tomorrow). Bottom R corner view Full tank view (but it's not the same as today, now that Ive glued some stuff to the rocks) New chalice, has random holes appearing in it. Not sure what its from. Frogspawn Happy gorgonian Facia-Seems hongry at the moment with his feelers out. Baby Duncan heads!!! Sun coral close ups 1 Quote Link to comment

My husband walks over there and stares at them and likes to comment about how they're the best fish in the tank. I think I may have been shipped a dying chalice. It's the first chalice I've tried, but it showed up showing a lot of skeleton, formed a hole before the lights went out yesterday and now looks pretty moth eaten this morning. Can they recover looking like that? 1 Quote Link to comment

Can they recover looking like that? I would think as long as there is flesh it has a chance to recover. Maybe try and move it to a low light spot and try and feed it. Fingers crossed it comes back for you edit: maybe take it out and give an iodine dip?? I hear people do that with hurt corals. 2 Quote Link to comment

I wonder if coral rx is the same stuff? I'm not sure. I've been using almost all Seachem products for reef dosing, because their labels are clear and it's been consistent with results. I looked their iodine stuff up and they have Reef Iodide-says real iodine is actually toxic. I'd have to get a test kit for that parameter too, to be safe if dosing this stuff. I was moving towards getting an iodine testing kit anyway, as I have the magnesium kit now. Was gonna top off at strontium and iodine. Soooo may do that after payday. I'm so poor at the moment since it's low census time at the hospital. 1 Quote Link to comment
StinkyBunny
Seachem makes a dip too. If you got it from LA, you need to bitch about it now. 2 Quote Link to comment

The flesh is so much worse today-that's the second thing coming from them that has struggled. The elegance hasn't given up the ghost even yet, and it still inflates every day. I kind of wonder if it's going to pull through after all, though it's looked pretty terrible doing it. But the chalice showed up looking pretty bad. I still worry a bit about that acan too. It still has a lot of flesh and extends but I've kept a good close eye on it. Maybe whoever is packaging their corals isn't paying good enough attention to what they're doing. 1 Quote Link to comment

They have a 2 week policy on stuff dying. And I got the first picture of it with a hole in it yesterday evening. I just got it yesterday. So you'd think it would be covered. 1 Quote Link to comment
