ECLS Reefer
So tonight the ammonia seemed better by a smidge on the test, it’s pretty subjective being API. And sometimes I feel pretty colorblind trying to read those. Nitrates were maybe 1, and I’d been running them at around 5-10 in the Evo, so that makes me hopeful. The gorgonian and the sun coral should appreciate that. Still struggling to regulate the correct water water level for the SCA-301 Skimmer so that it actually skins correctly rather than just overflowing and pulling water. There’s proof it’s skimmed in the past but I guess I will need to mark the tank for the correct levels. And, moment of truth- there’s fish in there. The husband (and yes I’ll totally blame him) bought them while at work one day last week because of the scene with the 9 year old over the lost fish. Everything is small right now, so they’ve got plenty of room to grow. Two black snowflake clowns Two royal grammas One McCoskey fairy wrasse One yellow prawn goby. Fifteen new dwarf blue hermits Emerald crab Four new trochus snails. One Scarlett shrimp. The herd of crabs between the new and the old have already started cleaning all the algae right off the rocks. I expect they’ll be clean as whistles soon. All of the crabs from the Evo survived, as far as I can tell. There’s too many hiding places to be certain, but I know my two electric blues and Halloween’s are still kicking (they’re my favorites anyway). So, finally a small breath is allowed I think. Hopefully everything settles out soon. 2 Quote Link to comment

Couldn’t take much more worrying over the missing pieces such as the filter, the salt and the parameters beyond my control. But it was a relief to come home tonight and find the water was crystal clear. The specks in the picture are brine shrimp that I fed everybody tonight- the tank looks damn good, in my opinion. Still not very colorful since the corals are still mostly angry, but clear for the fish. 3 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Water change today, since I let it ride yesterday. Changed 15% again. Got a big brute trash can to mix water in and do the changes from— so much easier!! No splashes to clean up and less bucket carrying. The witch’s cauldron 😂 Ammonia- 0.75 Nitrites- 0 Nitrates- 5 (though possibly less in reality- I tested right after I fed and put in microbacter 7) The fish are all happy and my corals are looking better and better 😊 GSP returning Torch Sun coral and one of my favorite crabs Really like this McCosker’s wrasse 3 Quote Link to comment

Yeah actually I have a LOT of prime. Got it to regenerate something or other and have two bottles now doing nothing. I can't even remember at the moment what I got it for. 2 Quote Link to comment

I still blame that damn serpent star. He was my favorite fish. This wrasse has a lot of personality and hasn't bothered anyone yet, and was listed as peaceful. He just sticks to the center of the lagoon and looks pretty, sometimes comes up to the glass like Oh HIII-who are you? 3 Quote Link to comment

ECLS Reefer
Tank is still looking good-makes me happy and relieved! I know most people wouldn't dare to put a decoration in with their gorgeous fish and corals, but the 9 year old begged. Have to admit, the teeny weeny goby does approve of it. GSP finally almost fully open Second clump of GSP also happy Favia still recovering but has extensions out. The hammer is still working on it's recovery, next to the trusty gorgonian The torch is still doing it's therapy too. Slow but steady. 5 Quote Link to comment

ECLS Reefer
Got more CUC today from Blue Zoo- 2 tiger turbos, 4 chestnut turbos, 5 scarlet reef crabs, and 1 coral beauty angel. The CUC took off hard at work soon as they plopped in there. The CBA has been doing well, hanging out in the back of the rocks and then making ventures into the lagoon with the others. Have only seen them getting along so far. A new tiger pistol shrimp is on the way for the poor lonely watchman goby- should arrive by Tuesday. Due to the bad news about coral imports I got two new ones ordered that will arrive tomorrow, mostly to make the clowns happy. A Duncan and a new BTA to choose from. Also got a small blue clam (hopefully I can keep the BTA occupied enough to leave it alone) and a ricordea yuma mushroom. 4 Quote Link to comment

ECLS Reefer
The parameters this week have been awesome, and so far no more water changes have been needed! It kind of freaks me out, not having to do them every week. Still tweaking the water levels in the sump to be just right for the skimmer to function best and for the drain to not be so noisy, since the tank is in the den. Makes it hard to hear the TV at a reasonable level of the ocean next to it. Today the tiger pistol shrimp arrived and my husband acclimated and released him. I wasn't here to see him, so I'm not even positive what he looks like, or how big. The hubs said it was twice as big as the poor goby. But, I have a nice mole hill and tunnel across the center of the tank under the live rock lagoon, so I know he's in there. Heard him snap already too. Hope he and the goby eventually find each other and get along. Last week we received a new Duncan polyp (love it!), new coral stick with three ricordea mushrooms on it (love those too), a very small blue clam and a rather large-ish BTA. The BTA is still in hiding and stays mostly under a back rock in the bottom of the lagoon. I hope it will eventually emerge so I can see what color it really is. I wasn't here for their introduction either. The tank is running smoothly these days, thank goodness. I know the Orbit wave pumps don't provide as much flow as a true powerhead probably would, but since that's the system I already have running, I am going to add a 1040gph Eflux wave pump to the system and shuffle the two 660s around to the dead zones. Hopefully I'll be able to get the flow working so there's no film on the water surface, no dead zones at the back of the tank and bottom, and a good cross flow in the middle. Also have a nice screen lid coming so no inhabitants try to leave. Sure love this tank and all the work that's gone into it-it's awesome to be able to sit and just watch. 3 Quote Link to comment
