Moved the wee little coral frags to new spots today. Looking good so far. Also, as part of my own back to school splurge and because my kids got to “nails on a chalkboard” level today, got a new yellow coris wrasse, who’s currently MIA in the sand, and a really nice new torch frag. Will have to see if the new dude has shown himself in a bit as I have no shots of him yet.

Went ahead with the weekly water change today rather than waiting until tomorrow. Need to be studious tomorrow and write a paper. Will test the water to see how the parameters look following a change and good siphoning. 

 

Also, will have a couple new corals in to add tomorrow for the tank's special day....

Today is the SCA's FIVE MONTH BIRTHDAY!!! 

 

Tested parameters AFTER a water change this time, and had some good results. Now have more realistic goals to shoot for since I know what the water more or less should look like. Pulled out the bubble algae in the refugium and replaced with red ogo algae for the next attempt at growing it. Have a better light now, so hopefully this time it will take off.

 

The corals are much happier with lower phos, with one of the frogspawn trying to split and the hammers starting to come back. Even the unfortunate hammer I ripped in half is growing--both halves.

Happy to report that the tank has done well with a once a week only water change (yay!). It’s adapting well to the no chemical media thing, and the lower phosphates are actually making the euphyllia happy again, slowly. Have gotten the KH back up to the level coral pro salt starts at, which is 11-12. I know it’s high, but I saw an almost immediate change when I started raising it back up. 

 

Also the two new SPS corals are doing really well!!!

I really like this little “Shrek” coral (lobophytum). It has opened up pretty happily and looks good, even though small. And the birds nest is also happily open! I’m glad my janky lighting is working for now. May have to take that leap for a small acro.. have a spot saved for it 🤔

Sorry, still working on figuring out the best way and time to take pictures of some of the corals. These are the clearest ones I've managed of the Pocillopora and one of the clearest of the Acropora. Oh and The Red Baron came out for a nice pose.

Just a small proud plug for the SCA! I think I’ve found the short tentacled plate’s happy place, and it’s still extending. Seems happy next to the hammer garden, so I’ll keep it there unless there’s trouble.

 

The rest? Well, the tank looks great and is starting to busily consume KH, calcium and mag. Super happy with its progress! Thank you @StinkyBunny and @WV Reefer for all your help!! Might make something of this little reef yet.
