I can no longer upload pics directly from my phone to the site - apparently now the max. total size for uploads have been restricted to ~80KB? So strange, because I could uploads pics without issues yesterday, and today the size limit has been lowered considerably on my end. 😞

However, I can still copy-paste my Insta-links here, so hopefully this works!

Here are pics of all 4 of my new corals, as promised earlier:

The Yuma Bridge currently looks like this:

My hammer colony is declining badly. It has been receding continuously for the past 3 days, and I personally don't think it'll make it. 😕

My state shifted back into a lockdown, so inter-district travel is barred unless for work or emergencies. I won't be able to access my primary LFS for the next 2 weeks (or month, depending how long the lockdown is extended) so I can't cut off the dying heads of the colony to save the rest of it.

I'll also be unable to pick up my frogspawn & bubble corals, but I think the downtime between new additions might be a good thing because this tank needs more time to recover fully.

The good news is, my shrooms appear to be doing quite well - some are splitting and growing new baby shrooms, others are simply growing larger heads. 👍

This morning was very stressful. I was scraping the glass & stirring up the sandbed using a large bamboo chopstick, but then a LOT of sediment was kicked up into the water column.

Usually when I stir the sandbed, there will be tiny puffs of dirt, but this time it was different. Either I stirred too much, or the sandbed was indeed dirtier than I thought - because within minutes, my whole DT was *brown and cloudy. 😭

Worse still, my fish started jumping out of the water - mostly my dragonets & steinitz gobies. I knew instantly something was wrong, so I ran downstairs to quickly fetch the salt to make 30G of fresh SW.

I also had a panic attack while I was trying to get all the equipment needed for a WC, and it was awful. 😓

Once I managed to even out my breathing and calm down enough to clear my mind and focus, I got everything I needed and did the emergency WC.

I also replaced the filter sock in the sump, swapped out the old floss for new floss, removed the old carbon & replaced it with *2 new carbon packets etc. I managed to get most of the dirt out of the DT using a gravel vac. and replace the old, fouled water with new SW.

It took me nearly ~2 hours to get everything done, and I was still a bit shaky, but at least none of the animals were trying to jump. I did a headcount and all fish are accounted for except for 1 steinitz goby, 1 tangaroa goby & 1 decorater crab (in the fuge). All three of them are talented at hiding though, so I *think they'll pop up again tonight.

I'm just glad that I managed to avert what could have been a really big crash. Before this incident, I had actually transfered a chili pepper monti frag from my 10G to this tank. Here it is, next to my red monti (its colors are way off though) :

I had also moved my tiny pearl bubble frag to the sandbed:

And I had nearly lost everything today. 😭

I'm mostly glad that most of the animals made it through alright:

But I'll definitely be more careful when I stir the sandbed in the future. 👍

Fast forward to evening, and the tank is recovering smoothly from this morning's near-disaster.

Managed to get a few good shots of Poseidon - and I swear he has actually grown chunkier: 😅💦

He was certainly very hungry today:

And even had a nice potbelly to show for it:

I could have lost all of my dragonets today. So thankful I didn't. Was a very sobering experience - just reminds me of how fragile and resilient our mini marine ecosystems are at home. 😓

WOW glad you were able to recover the tank so fast.

I'm glad too. Still in a bit of shock because I almost lost the whole system. I didn't know my sandbed had that much dirt in it. I clean it regularly, but never stirred it aggressively until today. 😞

I stir mine sometimes because the filter feeders SEEM to like a little dirty water but I do a small section at a time.

Yeah, usually I do small sections too. This time, I decided to do the whole tank. Not a very brilliant idea. Live and learn, I guess. 😓
