About to TTM Pickle shortly. The next bin has been prepped & is on standby:

I also cleaned out Pickle's current HOB filter & media, and am now drying it out under the hot sun:

I've only seen some tiny blennies become mottled at night, but even their markings are not this extensive. I think the mottling helps foxfaces *blend in with the rocks to prevent them from being eaten by predators while they are resting ---> just a theory. 👀

I noticed their dorsal spines are fully erect during this period too, and has faint luminescent streaks on them - a warning to others, maybe? Not sure. 🤔

I wonder if *all rabbitfish species can do this too. 🤔

I could not see the one on the reef until right up close. Maybe they use their spines in the wild a bit like trigger fish do trapping them selves in a cave.

Finished preparing all the equipment for the next peroxide bath & TTM:

If I had a choice, I'd delay this by at least another day because I haven't recovered fully. But the entire concept of TTM operates on a rather strict schedule, so I have to stick with it for Pickle's sake.

Thankfully he's doing well. Tiny fish, but has a strong little heart to keep surviving. 🌺

Foxy is also doing well in the DT. She is no longer frightened of me and actually swims directly up to the glass when it's time for the routine feeding session. I hope her bold personality continues to shine through as more fish are added to the tank in the future. 👍

Just waiting for the bath to be ready:

The new QT bin is already prepped & running:

I seed the media with a vial of bioptim every time I TTM. It's actually quite expensive - so I'm trying to figure out a more economical solution to this. Maybe Microbacter7 will be a better option? 🤔

Not quite sure. It definitely warrants more research. 🤔

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

In the peroxide bath! Let's knock off those parasites! 👍

He's actually a unique shade of mocha now, but it should darken to jet black once he matures. 😊

TTM completed this round. Last phase will be 3 days from now, and Pickle will be moved to the 10G Observation tank for a week before being finally introduced to the DT. 😊👍

I could be mis-remembering but I don't believe it's recommended to aerate during a peroxide bath as it degrades the H202.

But I thought if you don't aerate - the fish will start gasping (?) Their breathing is usually elevated during the bath - I'll double check with Humblefish/drop by his forum for a quick read.

I believe that's with acriflavine and other such medications which are known do deplete oxygen, H202 should increase oxygen as it breaks down in the water column.

Today is the final day of hybrid-TTM for Pickle. I WCed the 10G observation tank:

20220122_133918.thumb.jpg.cfe201a02774056879d57204ae2781e0.jpg

And added an extra plastic plant for cover:

20220122_133832.thumb.jpg.952f3a9f5487c2640ddfc3292ac882fc.jpg

While retaining the previous plant:

I temporarily held Pickle in a bucket while I cleaned out his older QT bin & all the equipment:

Had to be careful to avoid cross contamination between the bin and the tank.

Also pulled over dual lids and clamped a small light over the observation tank:

He was very, very happy when I transferred him over. Mostly exploring the entire tank:

20220122_134158.thumb.jpg.90bd307e82ce597aea6156a9829dc635.jpg

But his favorite part was the PVC hideout:

20220122_134344.thumb.jpg.7ad23fc30abcbdb6bc56f83879653f55.jpg

It was definitely nice to watch him in a proper tank. The lights are quite bright however, so I only keep them on during feeding sessions, or when I want to watch him:

He's actually a very unique shade of brown. Initially I was quite convinced he'd change to a solid black in a year, but now I'm hoping he doesn't - he's beautiful the way he is. 🤐

20220122_134105.thumb.jpg.7649ae4e0689943d85bd5adc840897e0.jpg

Even though the tank is cycled, I added another bioptim vial to the media in the sump - just in case. I wish the second clown had made it too, actually. 😔

That one was very beautiful as well - the misbar markings were in the middle though.

I'll try to head to the store after the CNY break (store will be closed for a week or two). Hopefully there'll be another clown (preferably aquacultured) or tiny goby/blenny that I could pick up. A small wrasse would be welcomed too. 🤔

The one thing I might recommend -if at all possible- is to give the clown a acriflavine (ruby reef rally) bath before adding it to the display. That stuff is unbelievable at getting rid of brook and remarkably gentle on the fish.

Not to add extra burden, steps, or anxiety into the mix.

I don't have ruby reef rally (specifically), but I do have acriflavine (powdered form). I'll read up on how to go about the bath and give him one. Personally, I don't think he has brook, but better be safe than sorry, I guess. 🤷‍♀️

I love the name pickle and glad she is doing well 🙂 The peroxide is supposed to treat brook too but obviously it’s a newer experimental treatment.

Hoping QT pays off for you. I know how much work goes into it! I have done hybrid TTM on every fish I own. It is a lot to take on.

It is definitely a lot of work - but I think it'll be worth it in the end. 😊

She certainly is a very happy lil' fish. I'm actually considering moving her to my nano instead of the big tank. A bit undecided, but we'll see.

I just feel that she'll appreciate a tank full of corals instead of a bare one - the nano might look packed, but there are a lot of *places to explore. 🥰

Pickle had white, stringy poop this morning. 😔

I think she might still have some internal parasites (might not necessarily be worms, could be flagelletes) - so I'll be treating her with another round of prazi, but will add some metro with it.

I've purchased some albendazole online as a back up - just in case this strain is prazi-resistant:

Screenshot_20220125-161138_Shopee.thumb.jpg.b8c2e66ebb61d1f48af6fa5639056b45.jpg

So it looks like Pickle will be in this QT for 2 weeks, as opposed to 1. Hope she makes it. 😕
