Despite the hammer's issues, the shrooms are thriving, growing & even splitting:

I think I'll focus on stocking the tank with more shroom morphs, two or three softies, and two or three LPS (purchased from my primary LFS) as opposed to a LPS-dominant tank.

I'm also observing the two monti frags I added to this reef and they seem to be doing okay. 👍

Update on the BJD situation: It worsened overnight and the hammer is a lost cause: 😭

I'm going to have to bin it after this. 😓

I checked on the other 3 remaining LPS in the tank, and although none of them are doing too great, I didn't see any signs of BJD on any of them.

The mini pearl bubble frag was on the sandbed, so hopefully it is *far enough from the hammer to be affected:

IMG_20210118_094547_120.thumb.jpg.a2af0893b29f3076060c0021721b1200.jpg

I'm rather worried because BJD seems to be a recurring issue in this tank. I have had healthy corals like my hammer, develop it for no identifiable reason, and that does scare me a little. It's also *always the wild pieces that are the hardest hit. Small aquacultured LPS frags like my trumpet & duncan, which used to be in this tank, never had any issues with this disease. 🤔

Despite this glaring setback, my shrooms are still doing well - I even spotted a new baby red discosoma today, and that cheered me up a bit:

There is one major thing that I'm very thankful for - that BJD doesn't affect the health of any of my fish.

With so many animals in a single system, it can be hard to keep track of all of them, but I love each of the critters I keep, even if they might be buttheads sometimes. 😅

For the most part, everyone gets along well, so I'm content.

I'll only be adding more LPS after the lockdown has been eased, but these colonies have been QTed and cared for by my primary LFS for months, so I *think they should fare better.

I'll only dip my current 3 LPS corals if I spot any signs of deterioration, otherwise I'm leaving them as it is. 👍

The vacant space on the rocks left behind by the hammer has definitely interested the more curious creatures of the tank.

Dusky's colors have improved ever since I moved him into this tank. His back-half is no longer dusky, but actually quite a bright shade of orange:

I think the increased feedings + bigger environment truly helped him settle in. He's grown longer too. Now around ~3". 😊

I love all the pics of your fish!  They look wonderful and it's cool how you share about their personalities.  I feel like I know them.  Having a tank full of smaller fish with big personalities is so much fun.  I feel that way about my tank too!

Thanks, Dawn! And yeah - I love, love smaller fish. 😊

Nanofish often get overlooked here in favor of larger, active fish like angels, tangs, butterflies and whatnot. But I think gobies & blennies have plenty of personality too.

I really need to catch up on your thread. I remember you keeping multiple blennies in your tank too. And it was, and still is awesome! 🥰

I'm sorry about your hammer coral. That would be really tough to watch. At least everything else seems to be unaffected.

I really love all your shrooms! I wish my lfs had more variety of them more often. They never seem to have any of the interesting ones like you have. I've been debating getting a blasto instead since they look similar 😁.

I think your tank looks awesome and I really enjoy reading your updates!

I love them too! We have quite a variety here - maybe because we're so close to Indo. And thanks! 😊

Holy Fat Spotted Mandarin! That is one the fattest mandarin I've ever seen. Tank is looking awesome.

Yeah, he's chunky. Takes a lot to keep him that way, but I think it's worth it. I love dragonets. 🥰

And thanks! Once our lockdown is over, I intend to pick up more frags & colonies. 😊👍

I checked on my monticaps. They're still alive and I *think the red cap has began encrusting on the LR, which is good. 👍

As for the chili pepper monti frag, when I pulled it out of my nano, it was pale greenish/brownish. I noticed the polyps have become a stronger shade of red in this tank, but the base color remains the same - the brownish hue is still there. 😕

I'm hoping it'll revert back to bright green in time, but given how high my NO3 & PO4 levels are in this tank, I'm not sure if it can. Only time will tell. 🤔

I'll try to get a pic of both montis later. I can't get a clear shot when I zoom in, but hopefully a topview would do. 👍

I took a few topview shots of the corals - most of these came out blurry, but I can't exactly dip my phone underwater to snap a few pics, so this is the best that I can do for now. 😅

Montis - the chili pepper isn't faring well, as I had mentioned earlier, but the red cap has grown a little:

I took pics of the shrooms with and without the yellow lens filter to compare the changes in colors. The ones snapped without the filter appear clearer and more accurate, color-wise: 👍

^Taken without & with the yellow lens filter. Under the filter & heavy whites, it looks bland and unattractive. But under blues & without the filter, it actually looks amazing, and is very vivid, so it became a quick favorite. 🥰
