I might have to try that idea out, will save Shady from relaxing on the Powerhead

Yeah - all you need is a magnetic clip (the seaweed one) and just some mesh. They seem to love perching on things - especially vertical perches and overhangs. If there was a way to get some magnetic rocks here at reasonable prices, I'd pick up 2 to 3 because I know these gals would enjoy them.

You take great photos. This thread is always full of eye candy.

Thanks, Tam! Some of the background in the pics can be a tad grainy though. I've tried to adjust it using Lightshop, but no dice, so I just leave it as it is.

I took these without any lens filter during mid-afternoon today. Lights were most on whites with the blues slowly revving up. 😊👍

I took these with the yellow lens filter during evening. By this time, the whites were dialing down and the tank was mostly doused in blue.

My little lions: 🥰

I'm honestly sorely tempted to forgo my last two fish slots and get a third lion - possibly another female. The bioload will be a pain though! Still thinking hard about it. 🤔

Dropped in some frozen krill earlier. Lily tried one, but wasn't too thrilled. I think when push comes to shove, they will evetually accept frozen if they are hungry enough. 🤔

Fed the shrimp some tetrabits pellets then dropped a few of them into the tank:

Both lions immediately caught one each. I saw one of the fish get a second helping, but I am not sure whether it was Lady or Lily. At least the lions are sated for now. 👍

The lions were reasonably active today. They love perching under overhangs or on rocky surfaces (and even the clam feeder! 😅), but I noticed they like to swim about too.

Fed the lions some live ghost shrimp (which have been fed with Tetrabits pellets in advance) today evening. Now I have 2 very happy lions with bulging bellies.

I saw my hawkfish heckle a shrimp, but I'm unsure if he caught it. He looks chubby though, but that could be due to the amount of pellets he's been gulping down daily during the feeding sessions. :happydance:

Thinking of dropping in another frozen clam and some liquid brine shrimp into the tank tomorrow morning, if I have time. I'll be mostly cleaning up my discus tank in preparation of 2 new 2" leopard discus juvis that I just purchased online from a breeder today. Looking forward to those lil' guys, and I hope they ship well like their predecessors. They should be shipped out tomorrow, so I reckon they'll arrive a day later (on Thursday), if everything goes well.

Definitely a lot of work incoming tomorrow morning! :scarry:

Dropped a few shrimp into the tank for the lions.

20220603_195559.thumb.jpg.010c7ae1b0d7982d95e40909e6dfb707.jpg

It was supposed to be 2 shrimp per lion. Instead, I watched my pajama cardinal - a supposedly *peaceful fish - hunt one down and gulp it, and my hawkfish grab another one and bash it against the rocks before eating it.

I honestly had no idea how brutal these guys were. One of my lions ate the remaining 2, so I was still stuck with 1 hungry lion.

I grabbed 3 more shrimp and my second lion had 2 of them. The last shrimp was ripped into half by my foxface and Foxy swallowed the tail-end, while Hawke the hawkfish ate the head. 👀

I think any future fish that goes into this tank will need to compete with the aggression I'm currently seeing. A large blenny would be good, but the clownfish would most likely have to either be a fire, tomato, clarkii or maroon. Anything *softer can't keep up. 🤔

I was supposed to have some pods to be delivered to the house this week, but the store was very busy so I took a trip to the LFS myself to pick them up.

I wasn't planning on visiting my LFS this month, but since I was already there, I spotted this fish:

20220604_122949.thumb.jpg.b2ed9800e50ed63e4deb305b6d2d926d.jpg

20220604_122952.thumb.jpg.d3925455eeb0e2780c51fbefd218da8f.jpg

Which was squishing a nem and incredibly large. 😅

Since the store was stocked with fish, I decided to grab a few things, including 2 toadstool frags for this tank (a weeping willow & a green neon-polyped one), and 2 fish - the pink skunk clown in the pics above, & a L-sized lawnmower blenny that was putting on a territorial display against another blenny in the next glass compartment. 😊

20220604_151842.thumb.jpg.7e5d953b5cad0b7d32497f8bf12a489a.jpg

The blenny's boldness reminded me so much of my previous Starry blenny, Thanos. Although this new fish smaller, it is still larger than my lions and can hit 6"+ in time.

I gave both a fish a 30 min. peroxide bath:

20220604_161156.thumb.jpg.6dd707f628299a92fc50025916d39d6b.jpg

Then moved them both into QT to begin the hybrid-TTM process:

20220604_160003.thumb.jpg.45585e8eb86d96532c4d774439ae0a8d.jpg

They're reasonably active, although the blenny is underweight - which is expected since it just arrived at the store yesterday.

The first 24 hours in QT is always the trial period for new fish, so I hope the pair makes it overnight.

If they complete the QT process successfully and are added to the DT, then that should wrap up my stocking plans for this tank.

I admit I did have a strong pinch of longing to purchase a chunky, 5" long XXL-sized mandy at the store, but I refrained. 😕

I do miss my dragonets terribly everytime I see a new one at the shop, but with the current direction of the tank (predatory), it is impossible to keep one in this. The only dragonet I can think of that can remotely be large enough not to be eaten is the mother blenny/sailfin dragonet, which can hit 12" in the wild.

Owing to its ultra-rarity in stores here + extreme size & huge bioload, I don't think it's a good fit for this setup, although I do long for a dragonet of some sort. 😔

I guess I just can't get over my first love in this hobby - dragonets. 🤦‍♀️

Back to this tank, the new frags haven't opened up yet. I dumped a bag full of live pods in the fuge to seed it, but my glass is filthy. Will take pics once I clean the glass tomorrow (too tired today) and hopefully the leathers will open up soon. 👍

Just checked on both of them. They're doing okay for now:

20220604_183256.thumb.jpg.b40b9b713db680db00030887b9cb48d9.jpg

20220604_183328.thumb.jpg.8a532ae0a30ac2a0b1e21f602d63dfd6.jpg

The blenny is quite alert, but the clown's resting - I moved the lids and wiggled my fingers above the water, and she immediately swam up to greet me. I am a bit worried however, because her breathing is a *bit elevated. I'll check up on them again later.

Turned the main room lights off so that all the animals can rest. Sometimes I feel like I have a mini zoo at home! So many animals, and so much responsibility.
