Snow_Phoenix
Goblin in ghost mode: He's growing more transparent with age. Charlie is becoming bolder everyday: Fish are fine. Tank is still covered in fuzz, but otherwise doing okay. 👍 5 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
New pellets have arrived today! 😊 Just was about to finish the old one off. My dragonets love these and the small NLS pellets. They used to eat Hikari pellets, but I stopped using it because for some reason, the pellets becomes moldy quickly once the sealed packet has been opened. (And this is despite me adding silica packets inside to absorb moisture). Also, hikari dissolves too rapidly in the water. It is good for fast-eaters like wrasses and clowns, but for slower-eaters like dragonets or tiny gobies, best to choose pellets that can retain their size & shape a little while longer. 👍 4 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Charlie the angelfish says hello! 😊 Also, I seemed to have lost Monty two days ago. I'm unsure what exactly happened - I recall stirring the sandbed & gunk in the sump too much one day, and a lot of dirt was accidently pushed back into the DT when the pumps were turned on. Water was cloudy for hours, and I *think the water quality deteriorated for a bit. Monty the halloween urchin went MIA for a whole day after this incident. Usually I'm not too worried if I can't see all my CUC members out in the open, because sometimes they stay hidden in the back of the tank to munch on the film algae there. But yesterday morning, I woke up and saw a white urchin skeleton, completely stripped of color, sitting on the sandbed in the back corner of the tank. Initially I mistook it as the skeleton of the previous urchin I had which passed recently due to old age - the tuxedo one. But a quick check confirmed that the tuxedo's skeleton was still in the tank, and still had faded red & blue stripes. I kept looking around and spotted both my purple rock urchin & new tuxedo, alive & well. So I knew that Monty had died. 😔 I have to check how long I have kept Monty, but I think the dip in water quality contributed to his passing. I will take extra care the next time I stir up anything, and I think I won't touch the dirt in the sump. Luckily all the fish are fine, active & still eating well. Pyro the fire shrimp is okay too. 👍 I still can't WC the tank because of my foot injury, so tank has to remain dirty for a little bit. I'll try to do a small WC and do a light cleaning of the sump before mid-November though. Once the cleaning & WC is done, then I'll pick up more more CUC - snails & urchin(s). 👍 5 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Bought a pair of giant 19" long forceps online. Figured it would be easier to retrieve things (including excessively large bristleworms) from the bottom of the tank in the future. 🤐 4 Quote Link to comment

I knew it would be two feet long, but it didn't hit me just how large they would be until they arrived. 2 1 Quote Link to comment

(You should have seen the box these ones came in. ) 2 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Poseidon has a unique way of partially burying himself in the sandbed every night: I think he feels safer when he is 'hidden', except he's probably unaware that he's a bright shade of greenish-blue & sticks out like a sore thumb among drab brown sand granules. 😅 1 4 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
My ~4-year-old Nassarius snail just died. There is still one more left. Also ~4-years-old. Saw it sliding across the sandbed just now. All older CUC members of >2.5 years have mostly died - 4 years is pretty long for a snail though. Will restock on Nass. snails once I have the chance. 3 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Patrick burying himself: Tux decorating himself with hardened coral glue. 🤦♀️ : Sushi the clownfish has lost a lot of weight recently and I'm worried. I plan on catching him (somehow) and isolating him until he thickens out again. He has been eating less than usual for the last week, but because he's constantly at the very top of the tank, where he's blocked by my wraparound black tank sticker, I didn't realize how much he had thinned out until he swam down today. 😔 He's an aquacultured clown and they're usually hardy, but I'll add some garlic to his food to entice him to eat more. I hope it's not too late to save him. 😔 3 Quote Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Dropped some garlic oil in the pods & mysis to entice Sushi the clownfish to eat. His appetite did peak a little - hopefully I can keep it that way. I'll be soaking the pellets in garlic from now on as well. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVSBX1urWlS/ All 3 of my dragonets enjoying their share of pods today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVSBwGZLld4/ 3 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
I am wondering if trying to catch him would just be too much stress. I would hold off at least a couple days since the garlic soaked food seems to help. 2 Quote Link to comment

Just grossly thin. 😕 Will keep up with the garlic-soaked food then. 👍 1 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Poseidon: Goblin is having his seasonal flare up of Ich (has this twice or thrice a year). Temp. in the tank has been spiking the last few days because we have been experiencing a very hot week. 😕 He only becomes stressed like this when the tank temp. fluctuates too much. I think I'll float some frozen water bottles in the tank and see if that can help somehow. Also, my angel is slowly becoming territorial. He's not large by any means yet, but I think I'll try to rehome him by the end of this year. A small sand-dwelling goby like a hi-fin or tangaroa would be a better option. 5 Quote Link to comment
