Gravity
Began using BRS ROX0.8 and GFO today. Mixed them together and placed in my media basket. Will see if this helps reduce algae but I will probably get some more snails in the next week or so anyways. Also had ordered ARC Purple Helix Coralline Algae spores about two weeks ago. Then decided to hold off using it until I got my salinity back up. The best buy date is tomorrow so I did another water change and poured it in. Hopefully I get some good coralline growth over the next few weeks. Quote Link to comment
Gravity
It’s been a week since using ARC Coralline Algae. Notice some white growth on my rocks I assume is the start of the algae growth. Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Salinity is almost back in range at 1.024. Gonna lower my ATO location and do a midweek water change to bring it up to 1.026. Should get things ready for the coral I picked up at the WWC live sale last weekend, which will be arriving Friday. Quote Link to comment
colinadam
What did you end up getting on the coral front? Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Got a nice mix of corals. - Green Star Polyp - Zoanthid - Favia - Favites -2x Lords - Duncan Just hope I can keep them all alive. Got Kalkwasser and Two Part coming to have on hand for when I need it. Got any tips? Quote Link to comment
colinadam
I think those are all good picks, no worries on them and they should be easy to care for. All are on the easier side in terms of care. If any ever don't look as good as they should play around with their location (more or less flow, light, etc). Got coral putty to mount them? If not stock up on super glue gel (Gel only, not the regular, Loclite brand works and is easy to find). If you want to leave the coral on the frag disk you can use shears to cut off the plug part. Can't wait to see what you do! Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Glad to hear you think they are easy. I got got some glue coming and picked up a pair of bone cutters for the plugs along with some coral RX. Hopefully everything goes smoothly. Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Got my corals in today from the WWC live sale last weekend. Dipped them in Coral RX for 10 minutes. Removed them from the plugs and glued them to some reef saver rock pieces. Did an additional 5 minute dip in hydrogen peroxide for my zoas and gsp to address some hair algae. 1 Quote Link to comment

billygoat
Congrats on your first corals! You've taken the first step down a very long, dark, windy rabbit hole. I can't wait to see where it leads you. 😉 I love the colors on those acans. They are really very beautiful corals. What kind of zoanthids did you get? Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Yeah, a little nervous about starting with some LPS but I got some Kalkwasser and two part. Will see how it goes. Got some fire and ice zoa. Will post a picture when they decide to open up. Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Here are the favities and favia. WWC Blue Dragon Favities WWC Swamp Thing Favia 1 Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Here is the Lavender Duncan which opened up the night it was added. The Fire and Ice Zoanthid took about two days to open up. The photo does not do it justice. Looks really nice in the blue LED. 1 Quote Link to comment
Gravity
My GSP has yet to open. Have read that the hydrogen peroxide dip makes them take longer to open. *Keeping my fingers crossed* 1 Quote Link to comment
colinadam
The corals look great, really good pic of the Duncan. How's the clown doing? What are you thinking of for future fish and corals? 1 Quote Link to comment

What are you thinking of for future fish and corals? Thanks. But one of my acans has started dying. Noticed yesterday the top part of the head started to melt. I initially thought it could be growth but today there is white showing. Checked the obvious things today: Salinity 1.0255 Temperature: 79F Alkalinity: 7.9 dkh (low but is it really low enough to cause issues?) Nitrate and Phosphate: generally low not concerned For now I have turned of my white light (50% reduction). Any thoughts on this? Quote Link to comment

As for future stocking plans: Fish - Shrimp goby and Red Banded Pistol Shrimp (still deciding on which goby) - maybe another clown or goby Coral I’m considering: - more acans assuming I can keep them alive - toadstool - Ricordea (florida and yuma) - Zoanthids - Euphyllia (concerns with long sweepers) Quote Link to comment
colinadam
Sorry about the Acan. I would suggest moving it to a low flow and low light spot, see if it bounces back. That's the frustrating thing with this hobby, things happen for no reason. I had a great looking Yuma for a month, happy looking and doing awesome. Let's just say it's not so awesome now, and there's no reason for it. Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Found a small filter feeder on one of my frags. Any idea what it could be? Quote Link to comment
Gravity
Overall things seem to be going good. Pretty sure my free acan has kicked the bucket with 99% white. A glimmer of hope with my gsp, as a single polyp has emerged. FTS 1 Quote Link to comment
Cpl_Wiggles
In my limited experience I know GSP enjoy lots of flow. That being said - when I first started my tank in 2017 I had both GSP and YSP and neither of them took off. Just got a new GSP this weekend and so far, it looks great where I put it with high flow. In answer to your pH question, perhaps this video will shed some light? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qbs2_YxModI&pbjreload=10 Quote Link to comment

I have it in low flow while it recovers but plan on moving it to a higher flow later. Not it sure what the pH reference is in regards to. Quote Link to comment

Alk is a measurement of how much your water will resist dropping in pH due to increases in acidity. You asked if low alk could cause issues and the short answer is it removes an insurance policy against damaging pH swings - which is the true danger. I should have been more clear.
