NC_Reef
Due to bioload and being a college student, I decided maintaining such big predators in a smaller tank was too much hassle. So I found them a new home and bought some smaller fish. It also gave me a chance to perfect the scape of the tank which makes the flow a lot more efficient. I added 2 pink skunk clownfish, 1 blue mandarin, 3 green chromis, 1 burgundy starfish, 2 peppermint shrimp, and a frogspawn. I love the new life the fish bring and I enjoy watching them swim all day over the lionfish and eel hiding. Many more pictures to come. Also doing a water test today so I will post parameters. NC_Reef
The reef has taken the fish swap and rummaging of rocks and sand quite well. I thought I would have an ammonia spike since I messed around in the sand so much but found a reading of 0 during water test. I originally added a marbled wrasse but it showed aggression so I found it a new home. All inhabitants seem to be getting along well, my melanurus wrasse is much more active with the less aggressive fish. I have been dealing with aptashia for some time now but just put in 2 peppermint shrimp since it is getting out of control. My biggest concern is my zoa garden because that is the worst area but the peppermints have been living in the zoa rock so hopefully I see some improvement. I've been adding calcium and Red Sea A&B recently so I am going to see how that affects my coloration and growth in the coming weeks. I have been trying to dial in my media reactor and skimmer with little success. I am almost tempted to buy a new skimmer in the near future. I do have a different pump on the skimmer than it comes with so maybe I will buy the stock pump and see if that helps. Parameters: ph 8.2 nitrite 0 nitrate 40... ammonia 0 calcium 360... (still tracking daily consumption hence why it is low) salinity 1.024 temp 78 Quote Link to comment
NC_Reef
5/22 Update: After moving the tank back home with me for the summer it has taken off a lot better than I expected. I have spent less time in the tank with it being a busy summer which I think the coral appreciates. My montipora has grown more than ever just in the past 2 weeks largely due to calcium supplementation. Green tip torch is huge compared to what I bought it as. Frogspawn has grown a lot since being put in; I can't wait to see it at the end of summer with it's current growth rate. My zoas have finally been placed in a spot that the crabs won't knock them over so it's only a matter of time before my zoa garden starts taking shape. One of my favorite corals right now is my red people eater palys which are growing a new polyp seemingly every day. Purple sinularia is plump as usual, gorgonians are all very happy. The fish all seem to be getting along well but I feel like I need to add more. 1 Quote Link to comment
