Dr. Seuss's Truffula Tank - 2.5 Old School Pico

Ok quick update, the majano is still alive, my pesky aptasia is still there, I killed some, turned the rock over cause I was playing with my rockscape and found more grrr... Now this week I've got brown stringy stuff all over, if it's diatoms ok, then I've never had them and this is a total newb thing lol. Anyway anyone want to help me and tell me what I'm looking at here? Thx

Looks like diatoms. give it time. i've noticed with just an AC30 my circulation is a bit low, just added a fountain pump.

Thanks! That's what I'm hoping it is, I've never had diatoms lol, this is new for me. I'll keep the fountain pump in mind, hoping I won't need it, but if I do then I'll add it.

Your powerhead looks like the fountain pumps i've used! I'm sure that's enough circulation.

I wish I had a power head in there. I don't think there are any small enough for a 2.5 gal lol

I just spent a few minutes searching for those, no clue where I would even begin to look to find them, not too much info on them other than wikipedia, but I'll keep my eyes open.

Hardware:

Aqueon 2.5G - $14

Aquaclear 30 - $0

Cobalt heater - 5W, probably gonna have to replace this - Changed to Tetra HT10 $20

Par38 not sure if it's the 12W or 23W I bought both during the reef jar contest and can't remember which stayed over the converted jar (anyone know how to tell by looking at it?) - $0

Still need to find/make a lid that will work with HOB on there (any ideas?)

Planning to do manual top off

Stocking:
Still deciding on lots of things...
Plan for corals at the moment, Truffula Trees (AKA different colored hammers) and trying to grow green, grassy mats (thinking green star polyps) over the "hilly" rocks. Will also keep looking for other corals that will keep the Lorax theme. 

You can add Duncans.  They look like they belong in a Dr. Seuss book.

Quick update with a FTS. Still dealing with the brown stringy stuff, which is making my hammers not open!  I'm really hoping it's not Dino's (or as my students call them Dino-flatulence, and Dino Farts 🤣) I'm hoping to get more snails tomorrow.

Ok so whatever the the brown stringy/slimy stuff was, it had subsided. Now I'm hoping that the hammers will begin to open up! Wondering if the AC30 is too much flow for this tiny pico. Here's a FTS without the slime! We're in business now to begin stocking! Trying to decide on critters to go in there now.

So got to hang out with @This guy is extra salty and @inland_reef for a few at a local LFS. @This guy is extra salty made me an acrylic top for my janky tank and included a nice etching on it... But get this I only asked for one and he hooked me up with two! Now to decide which lid to put on this tank. Thanks so much for the thoughtful etchings, here's a few pics for all of you to admire this awesome work.

It was a very nice little meet up... not too long or anything, we all had stuff we had to get to, but good none the less.
