I've been having trouble keeping a steady temperature in the tank so I've ordered a cheap temp controller. It has been ranging from 76-82 degrees and I haven't been able to keep my lid on it. Once the controller comes in and the temp stabilizes I plan to go to my LFS to trade in my 18 head frogspawn from my main tank for some new frags for the 2.5. I'd love to keep euphyllia in there but I'm afraid they'd take up too much space. I've been leaning towards some mushrooms and ricordea, a couple acans, a blasto and I might try to keep an acro or two up top.

Maybe cut 1 or 2 heads off the frogspawn to put on the top left end of the rock! I have one in my jar and it has a little bit of reach but not too much for the small space

I might have to do that! I'd love to get some of my euphyllia in there! Maybe my project for next weekend 😊

I love your aquascape design @JP728! How are all the new snails doing? Did you get that first frag in place? 🙂

Thank you @Christopher Marks! The new snails are thriving and loving their new habitat. I've been feeding them extra small APBreed pellets and they seem to be loving it. I've also had a good amount of algae growing in the tank and I've noticed their doing an excellent job keeping the sand clean. I did get some frags in the tank this past weekend as well. Update with photos coming shortly!

This weekend was pretty successful as I took a long anticipated trip to my LFS. There arent many around my town so I have to drive an hour to the best one around, Love The Reef in Wilmington MA. The owner is super helpful and has great prices, especially for tiny frags. He made some clips of things that I wanted from his 300gal and threw in a freebie as well! I felt a shout out was much deserved as I'll definitely be going back to pick up a warpaint clown goby and a few more goodies. Anyway, I spent my Saturday driving down there and getting 7 new frags into my 2.5! I'm glad to say they're all doing very well even the 2 acros! Heres a current FTS from this morning and a close up of each frag below.

I wasn't too sure how how well my copepod population would manage to survive when I seeded this tank with tisbe pods on day one. I feel a lot of reefers would say they surely wouldn't make it in a new tank especially on the very first day but here is some proof that they are thriving!

I picked up a few more frags this weekend to add to my zoa and acan garden! The new acan is between the other two, just a generic green and purple frag. The zoa additions are a plug of fruit loops on the bottom corner and a single polyp of Gold Maul. The GM is one of the brightest zoas I've seen and I plan to use it as a reference for my growth during the competition.

Looks really colorful, I likey!!!

Are you scraping the frags off of the plugs or just cutting away pieces of the frag plug? I cannot tell by the picture if that's glue or plug..

Whatever you're doing it's better than seeing big ol' frag plugs 🙂

Your aquascape looks awesome, the color on the green montie cap looks so vibrant against the purple rocks.

Thanks @Wendy! I've been gluing the frags down directly to the rock. I really can't stand the look of frag plugs in a tank especially one this small so I just use a butter knife to pry them off.

Just a butter knife @JP728?

Hum, I would think something sharper..

Maybe I should try the butter knife 1st so I don't accidentally cut myself!?!?!

Thanks for the tip!!!

@Wendy Yes, I actually just find spot on the plug that I can fit the knife under the frag and just twist a little bit. Most of the time the frag just pops right off!

Just a quick update as I added a couple frags from my main tank last night. I've been waiting for my OG bounce to split but I couldn't wait much longer so I added the whole shroom to the 2.5. If I'm lucky he will split in this pico and then I can move the momma back to the big tank. He hasn't expanded to full size in the pico yet but hes still looking healthy and should be fuller in no time. I also added a frag of my Knicks torch, just waiting for him to get happy again and color up. Last addition is a .5 inch frag of forest fire digitata! Dont mind the algae, I plan to order some more cuc on Monday! 🙂

Wow, nice colors & that bounce shroon is very interesting!

Thanks again for your tip on the butter knife frag popping... I popped my acan frag off the plug & it worked great!

I have some bone cutting forceps, but they seem to crush more times than cut):

Time for an overdue update! I've been leaving my tank alone mostly to let it just run its course over the first month. It is seeming to stabilize nicely now after a bumpy beginning. Since my last update, there have been a few changes. I've added a diffuser for my AI Prime from 3Dreefing, mainly to protect my kids eyes and reduce light spread in my kitchen. Inside the tank, I've had to remove a couple corals that weren't thriving. Unfortunately my Gold Maul melted most likely due to being a fresh cut from my LFS. My birdsnest, green montipora, OG bounce, and Knicks torch all had to be put in my main tank where they are much happier. My acans and other zoas are all doing great. One of the bloodsuckers removed itself from the frag glue and found a new home in the back left of the tank and has produced 3 babies. The one that has stayed up front has also produced 4 babies so now I have 9 after starting with just 2! I'm excited to see how many I can get to cover this rock by the end of the competition. Also, as expected, I have found myself bumping into the rock structure and having to reglue or reconstruct a few times. The left side, in particular, fell apart on me but I think looks much better now.
