Ratvan
I like it on the Barnacles, they look pretty cool with GHA carpet on top. Other than that its going to be a pull and scrub job again 1 Quote Link to comment
Wonderboy
Well I actually just bought some turf algae from the internet, so I'm not really one to talk - lol 2 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
Picked up the couple of SPS Corals today from a local reefer. Lovely tank, lights were off though so couldn't geek out as much as i would have liked to, but the guy had the largest Elegance Coral I have even seen. I also got him to frag me a small section of Fox Coral (Nemenzophyllia) which I am putting in my 5.5G. Also Torch seems to have gotten over whatever was bugging it (I think the Gobies are perching on it too much, like the Duncan) 4 Quote Link to comment

Ratvan
No losses over the weekend again, all good. However getting some interesting growths on the lass now. Looks like Coralline but appears to be a pale beige almost fleshy colour. FTS Needs a scrub down. Any idea how to get GHA off of Macro Algae? 3 Quote Link to comment

I have a variety of species and none seem to touch it. I'm thinking I'll have to scrub down rocks (no issue) but for things like my Red Algae, how do i get it off this? Quote Link to comment

However, as you might suspect, it killed the macro too. I've fragged off clean sections of macroalgae and discarded particularly covered sections. This can be effective if the hair algae blooms are now under control. Obviously, trying to eliminate the hair algae via nutrient reduction can affect decorative macroalgae growth too. It can feel like quite a balancing act at times. The more mature (and diverse) the tank, the easier it seems to be. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
Thinking ahead how do clowns and damsels get along? Particularly Blue and Yellow Tail Damsels and Clowns. Get mixed results on Google searches Quote Link to comment
seabass
They both belong to the damselfish family, so they are more prone to aggression amongst themselves. This is especially true in a nano sized tank (as they will compete for territory). Keep in mind that damsels tend to get more aggressive with age. So you may read that they get along (and they might) for awhile, but possibly develop problems down the road. 3 Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't, kind of how it goes will all damselfish, you could try less aggressive varieties like springers, rolland's, or talbot, but it's still a game of chance and the damsel isn't necessarily going to be the problem fish either. 2 Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
SPS like flow right? Just not direct flow? Would bare skeleton with what looks like polyps hanging off it be indicative of wrong placement? 😖 3 1 1 Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
Probably, yes, or aggression from another inhabitant. At least that's all that comes to my mind. Quote Link to comment

However, there is also something to letting a tank mature, and working through the problems. If it's just GHA (and not something like bryopsis), I'd probably try to fight through it. If it's just a good cleanup, then yeah, do it. 4 Quote Link to comment

I wonder if you need some as well. I got a good sized cuc last week to help with it. Seems to be working a little bit. Maybe beef up the crew some? 3 Quote Link to comment
