MetaTank
So as I stated in a previous post, my grandfather summered in Florida before he passed away back in the 90s, and he used to walk on the beach every day and collect things. Here are some of the coral skeletons he had collected over the years... And this last little piece is Pico sized, so it’s going on the tank as an homage to my grandfather. Currently boiling in in distilled water. Maybe I can glue some zoas to it. Also found some more shells to let the hermits try out...lol 8 1 Quote Link to comment

It was like 1/8th the price of the brand name ones...but it took about a month to arrive since it came on the slow boat from china Well, not impressed on the packaging...lol. Magical lens. Harrumph!! But on closer inspection, the macro lens is surprisingly beefy And it came with three filters, the macro lens, the clip, and a little bag to hold them all in. All in all, surprised at the quality for the price upon initial inspection. I still have to play around a bunch with it, but these are the initial results. I am pleased so far. I’m sure once I play with the lights and filters, I’ll dial it in a little better I think you've sold me on the reef lenses. I was going to tough it out for the contest but these photos have changed my mind 1 1 Quote Link to comment

My lights aren't even where I want them, I've just been ramping up sowly over the past few weeks since those zoas were in the dark for over a month...lol... Once the lights are at their final intensity, I'll figure out the lenses. These pics were just "fresh outta the box" excited pics in a hurry. 7 minutes ago, debbeach13 said: Those pictures have colors that seem very natural to me. I like it. Yeah, they lenses are gradient too, so you can rotate them to blend colors, I really need to play with it, but so far, I'm really excited. You shoulda seen what I was doing before to take pics! Juggling a paid or orange lens sunglasses in one hand, and my phone and a magnifying glass in the other hand, trying to line everything up...it was a nightmare! This is infinitely simpler. 5 minutes ago, Ratvan said: I think you've sold me on the reef lenses. LOL...I was in the middle of doing an update between beach day yesterday and the coral skeletons my grandfather had collected, and checked the mail in between posts...lol...Only to find my lenses had been delivered! And you know...new toy! So I had to play with it immediately before finishing my 2-part beach/coral skeleton update post...lol 2 1 Quote Link to comment

MetaTank
I’m terrible at zoa ID. Anyone know what these are? I have a bunch of them...lol And i I have three new mushrooms! 4 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
All in all, I just got a ton of zoas, a Duncan with like 10-15 heads, some sort of acan colony with smaller polyps, and three shrooms. I may have some free Zoas for SoCal reefers if they wanna come get them. Waiting for everything to open up before I make any final decisions This is the 120 gallon reef they came from this is the rock covered in zoas I received...he said “want that rock?” Lol i declined the toadstool, and he proceeded to cut the rock into pieces for me Mans I shoved it all in bags in my little coral kaboodle This is the biggest intact piece, it has 2 of the mushrooms on it And here is the crazy Duncan I will have more pics when things open up, and I guess it’s really time to start glueing things down to the rocks in the pico!! kimdawg
Beautiful pics and I love those new zoas. I would be first in line for some of them if I lived there. 1 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Here’s a brief rundown of everything he just gave me, in picture form. Every pic is a different frag, some zoas are repeats. Pretty generous nonetheless! Almost everything is open, and I’ve been messing around in the tank so I’m surprised they aren’t more irritated...lol He he said he fragged some Blue Eyed Blondies for me after I left his house too...lol 4 2 Quote Link to comment

And I really have to start adding all the corals to the pico and glue them down! It’s fun to have something to work with though! debbeach13
This is my favorite type of news. So very nice of him. That is old school reefing. I miss that kind of support which was so common with the Boston Reefers club. 3 Quote Link to comment

But apparently he’s on good terms with the owner and still had his own hookup...lol 3 hours ago, This guy is extra salty said: You need a coral carrier 😂 Yeah, I need a lot of things. But the one in the pic DOES have a locking lid with a handle, so it’s pretty handy. I don’t seal the bags, I just bagged things up so they wouldn’t bump each other during the ride home too much 2 hours ago, yoshii said: Wow so many new bright corals! I'm super lucky to have run into him again when I did! I really hope you find something cool on the beach! This was back in the 90s, so I don't know how population growth may affect beachcombing finds! But I stil find cool things here in LA sometimes, just no coral skeletons. 1 Quote Link to comment

MetaTank
Actually just bought this from LAX aquarium yesterday, and signed up for their text promotions. Although, they said they were charging 20 bucks per head, and I’m pretty sure this is two heads mashed together, but they only charged 20. Im probably goin back tomorrow to take advantage of the sale 2 1 Quote Link to comment
