MetaTank
So yeah, ever since Salty urged me to make a hood, I’ve been thinking about it. But when I got that ugly fan on top of my tank last night, I figured it didn’t fit into the look of things at all. So this happened About this point in the build I decided I needed a clear top if I am still going to run the Asta 20. So I made a drop in acrylic lid AND a wood top that sits on top of it, so I can go either way. The top will remain removable And yeah Staining it now...then gotta waterproof the crap outta it...lol 7 4 Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
That is way cool😎 ! I have been thinking about making a lid out of orange acrylic (like the ones that polyp lab uses to make corals pop with those phone clips) 1 Quote Link to comment

This guy is extra salty
Woooo damn that sure is purdy 😂 does that big fan on the left light up? 2 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Just now, This guy is extra salty said: Woooo damn that sure is purdy 😂 does that big fan on the left light up? Yeah, it lights up blue, thats the one blowing on the water surface through the opening of the lid cut out for the Aquaclear. At first, I wasn't into it, but then I thought it might be nice to have a visual cue when the tank is too warm. The little tiny fans on the right are always on, and completely silent. The big fan on the left will be hooked up to the "Cooling" outlet of my temperature controller 1 Quote Link to comment

I have a couple more ideas, mainly about having a different lighting option. Maybe more to come later this week 13 hours ago, yoshii said: Oooooooooo Nice work! Appreciate it! I'm trying to make this little tank into a Janky Gem, and I'm really having fun following along with everyone else. It was really neat to see the light reading with and without the "shade" curtain, I hope you figure out a good way to cool the little tank, I'm eager to see what the natural sunlight tanks do!! 12 hours ago, Clown79 said: Love the tank, the hood looks awesome. Definitely the most advanced woodworking project I've ever undertaken, but I'm really enjoying it all! But after seeing your latest update, I'm flabbergasted... Stunning... I don't think my talent will carry over INSIDE the tank, and I'm just aiming to not crash the tank in the next 7 months...lol I'm very much still a beginner as far as reefkeeping, I started in 2011, and stopped in 2015, so I'm WAY out of practice. A lot has changed in a relatively short period of time, I'm still catching up 1 hour ago, Tigahboy said: Very nice! Everything came together perfectly. It's beginning to. I still have to waterproof the heck outta the hood, and I may still be doing some work on it. I like the idea of having multiple lighting options for it, and maybe doing something fully enclosed...I dunno, I like projecting. But I HAVE to waterproof it and let that cure, so I can finally get the tank wet! Don't wanna start anything with the hood still "gassing off" the solvent from the spray-on acrylic Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Thank you @Superdave! I bought this from a fellow Nano reefer on the site, and it arrived today. This heater is the perfect size, and coupled with my temperature controller, I think this may just be perfect for my tank!!! Thanks again brother!! 5 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Used like an entire can of this on the hood to waterproof it, I think I’m good 1 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Okay decided to add MORE light to the pico. In addition to setting up this 2.5, I’m also setting up a 7 gallon, which I had already purchased a light for...here is the 7 gallon as it stands now Anyway, I was setting everything up right now and I pulled out then stock light for this tank And what I noticed is it’s actually quite bright. It’s attached to the plastic mounting arm, but if you squeeze all around the perimeter you hear some little clicks...and voila! And it fits right over the Asta20, with about 3/4 inch in between them! 2 1 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Also, this is very hard to take a picture of...lol. But it’s 1.026 in my bucket, I’ll add a cup or two of distilled water to bring it down to 1.025-1.024 2 Quote Link to comment
