What type of algae is this?

Hi Reefers!

I just noticed I got some algae in my two week old reef tank. I'm not entirely sure what type of algae it is but it has a brown reddish color. It is on the rock and also on the substrate. It looks sort of like a spotted coat on the rocks, and is dotted on the subrate with some areas having like a coat like in the picture.

What is the recommended steps to get rid of this? Water changes? Chemiclean? or something else?

All help is appreciated!

It was difficult to get a good picture, but I'll post the ones I took. I will try to take better pictures.

Can you try to take some pics with the white lights on?

Hope fully this is better 🙂 The blues were a little intense in the last one

Probably diatoms... normal and good sign. 👍 And check out the algae ID section on ReefCleaners... if you’re ever unsure of the algae you have going on you can send a pic and he can confirm.

Congrats on the first sign of life in your tank!

Diatoms, yay!

Got a small cleanup crew from my LFS so it's not the only sign of life, lol
