Hand Chemicals

I just stuck my hand into my tank a little to grab something with forceps and afterward I remembered I have dried latex paint on them from painting earlier. I'm not worried about this one time, but how much impact does that kind of thing have? Sticking hands in willy nilly after you may have been using a cleaning product or have some oil on there or you were pumping gas earlier or whatnot. Do people ever, like, accidentally nuke their hand from hand-to-tank chemical transfer?

I've seen where someone crashed their tank do to something on their hands.  I think it was paint thinner.  They even claimed to have washed their hands.  Some non-waterbased substances might even withstand a light hand washing.
