I will have to post an update this week of the V3. Hopefully these photos will suffice for now.96C52123-29A7-44C9-9BB8-E1C752126858.thumb.jpeg.bf833316e603afd8e3385acc2acc035e.jpegB14624D3-1717-487D-9425-735CA50AF2A8.thumb.jpeg.4c06700a5c56920380524a913ec70850.jpeg021FDD32-F171-44EA-B344-647A802E8642.thumb.jpeg.82a086caa3b43ee4267d74cb4ee76c25.jpeg

I have been busy with work and mostly my son has been sick for the past two days, which I have been drawing the short straw with the ole lady and been staying home watching blue planet answering my sons coos from what David Attenborough is saying in his narrative.

Im praying my mom will come through to watch my son tomorrow. so I can get some work done and orders completed

So another week gone another update,

i noticed that the pulsing Xenia was doing it’s spreading thing and the colony is banished to the power filter I’ll see if someone local wants it @inland_reef

@BahamaLlamaCoral

onto the update.

as I was removing the Xenia colony I noticed I have some coralline algae in the front panel. Well top right cornerat first I thought it was a flat worm, after intensive inspection and photo. Behold this little beauty.C875D129-4FFA-4DCA-8F27-ADF207202111.thumb.jpeg.9d8b34f03dc4e496743ca9b8a745f09a.jpeg

so now i have seen more more bubble algae AKA “spherical water lettuce”  popping up everywhere. Along with quite a few pests flatworms, majanos, and aiptasia.

The little V3 is doing great with the fact it’s ULM or no maintenance lol I haven’t bothered on cleaning the glass since my hand knocks the aquascape around. I can say it’s literally a set and forget setup.

Here are my light settings for my primeHD over the #oldschoolpicoreef

I have it about 8 inches above water line with a solid piece of clear p95 acrylic that I fashioned into a lid127E2633-48DB-407C-8C98-429EE9A986EC.thumb.jpeg.a56a17571150411952ccdcb24f59747e.jpeg

I never bothered with the acclimation mode since I have a lid/diffuser. It’s running at full intensity.

im still debating on keeping this little tank up after the contest. I guess I’ll see what happens in the final month of the contest!

Looks good, even with all the hitchhikers XD Dig the lid, it's essentially what I've done with all my tanks, my new idea is to circumvent the bowing by using small-thin ceramic magnets spaced a few inches apart in-addition the the acrylic rods I have supporting the span... ( this will also keep me from accidentally knocking things around whilst monkeying-about.

Magnets on the lid? Interesting idea but I make up enough encased magnets to not bother 😂
here I loaded the wrong program (the correct one is on the left)

Cheating lol, I figure the magnets will both, hold it in place, and correct any bowing along the edges lol... Looks clean, though I can see why the one on the right might not have saved you much work XD

The magnets that are used are 1”x.5”x.25” the program on the right is double in size

Hey @This guy is extra salty 👋 Can you believe it has been 7 months already? We made it!

This is a friendly reminder to post your final competition FTS and a 1 to 2 paragraph recap of your experience in the pico reef competition. Be sure to share your future plans for your pico reef as well, will it continue forward or get an upgrade? The competition ends on Sunday October 27th at midnight!

Thank you for being a part of the Old School Pico Reef Competition! ❤️

im glad I got that out😅

well this contest was fun and this little pico was interesting to see it develop into a successful softy tank. 🧐Even though I tried to throw SPS into this tank and yet all died unfortunately.😭 But I have been loving this dragons burp algae.  It has been the workhorse for Filtration in this ULM system. This little pico would’ve crashed or failed from the start if I didn’t have the Smart ATO/AWC. And in all honesty the way I have it setup with the drain and fresh water feed lines going to/from my larger tank, made maintenance 1000% care free. Especially when I have it do a30% weekly water change. I’ll dose about 1.5ml of skimmate weekly which helped with the colors and growth of the soft corals. (I did start off with 1 polyp for each of the colonies of zoanthinds)

ok the real champions are the pests in this tank, Bristle worms, aiptasia and majano anemones. Are thriving well along with bubble algae and GHA. I tried to contact the aiptasia in the tank and I stopped at 50. To knock back the population I grabbed 2 berghia nudi, from a local guy www.saltyunderground.com hopefully I can get them to breed. 😃

overall i would love to see this contest go longer but all great things must end.

But Im going to keep this pico running!!

until I get my 750 moved which will be around December hopefully 🤷‍♂️

Congratulations! Your in the finals. A little struggle in the start but you hung in there V3 is a nice slice of ocean. I am glad to read that you are keeping this tank running for now. Some great tank building skills. I liked seeing some of your builds for other members. Good luck in the contest and moving a 750 tank!

Thanks 🙏

im more than likely going to upgrade this setup to a 60g or 80g cube(V4) and will be a display refugium. I will use the same method as the V3 with daily water changes drawing/dumping the water into the sump of the 750.

i have already designed the stand to look the same as a Red Sea cabinet (32Lx24Wx36H)

it will also to house all the electronics and containers for the 750 and the V4. I’m aiming to do the move in mid December, after I build the stand for the display fuge.

And of course I will be building it all from scratch!

I will need all the luck I can get with the move, thinking about it really makes me nervous. But I will be glad the 120 is gone (it’s my SO tank) it has been a struggle to keep it clean and getting nice growth. She has a sweet euphyllia and gorgonian garden on the right sideF0077C5E-5AB0-4DD9-919E-791EFC637F9D.thumb.jpeg.bb6066e65d0928dd45c3def11d33e67a.jpeg

So here is an update everything is growing great so far I changed the WC schedule back to a daily basis is so hard to decide with this level of automation 😂 I have been dosing some phytoplankton daily into the 160 which is why the WC change

onto other news I received a care package from @SeaFurn totally blew my mind 🤯

8BB84CC9-805A-4086-8BB1-9AEA9A8C4CC6.thumb.jpeg.52e656c7afbfa5c090d33ac0fd825dfb.jpeg

I was sent two mangroves! I have been wanting to do a mangrove build for quite some time and now the trigger has been pulled 🔫

here they are freshly unpacked and into a temporary tank

I had to put them inside another tank to deter my son from ripping them out of the substrate

also this evening I moved them into a safer location and decided to add them to this build thread.. here’s why

now I have to clean up the cords a little cause they’re quite cramped. I have them under a finnex fugeray with an analog timer. They will have a more permanent home when I get the 750 over here.
