Pod Hotel: How to Build a Healthy Pod Population

Sorry to disagree but this was the biggest waste of 25$ I have spent.  It floats all the time so won’t stay submerged, even if I weigh it down no pods have checked in to the hotel.  I keep 2 mandarins and have a robust pod population otherwise.  The take away... buy quality live rock like pukani and do it the way nature intended.

I am sorry to hear you are disappointed in the Pod Hotel. Have you tried shaking it around underwater to remove any bubbles/air pockets? We haven't had any issues with them floating here in the office.

We've been playing with these a lot this year. We've seen the best results in systems where pods were not already established and living in their preferred habitat. Given a choice, pods likely prefer to hang out in rock and macroalgae like you mentioned.

But we've seen these babies get packed with pods in the few tanks we've tried them in. It took longer in our tanks that had sumps with refugiums in them. They filled up faster when put into the back of all-in-one aquariums without a refugium.
