748S911 Posted June 17 Sweet! Enjoy it! I'm turning 38, pretty happy about it too cause 37 sucked 😂 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 18 @748S911 Well hey I hope 38 is a great year for you! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 18 Anyone with branching hammer experience, I would love some input... Does this look like it may be splitting into thirds? I know it’s not the best picture, but section 2 that I circled has been completely separated after dark for the last week or so. It’s also bubbling up in the middle a ton at night: 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 24 Added a few new pieces to the tank. Here’s some pictures from today... New FTS (6-23-2019): Added an acan lord to the zoa garden: Also got this this new zoa from a local reefer: And he also threw in the Yuma: 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
billygoat Posted June 24 Great pictures! I can't help but notice that you have a whole lot of super cool feather duster worms in there. Did you add those intentionally or are they just growing on their own? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 24 @billygoat Thanks! I noticed a few when I first got the live rock, now there’s at least 50 feather dusters in the tank. Sadly, the clownfish has been hosting the one front and center on the zoa rock. Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 24 Can anyone Id that zoa I posted last night? I got it for free as a Rasta to grow out and frag for a local club down the road, but I’m 100% positive it’s not. Looks really nice though! Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 28 Zoa garden is complete and now I will just be waiting for all of the frags to grow in. I added around 20 polyps of playboy bunnies and around 6 nebula people eaters yesterday. Really excited to watch this grow out and see it filled in! Playboy Bunnies: Nebula People Eaters: 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted June 28 What it looks like before it grows in (I’m thinking it should be filled in completely by the end of the year): 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
billygoat Posted June 29 Some gorgeous colors on those zoas. Those nebula people eaters in particular have got me like 😍 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted July 21 Thank you @billygoat! They’ve been coloring up really nice in the past couple weeks and turned even more gold. Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted July 21 Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted on this journal, but I have been really busy with my internship lately. Today I was looking through pictures I took the week I moved into my apartment (early May) and was really surprised to see how much everything had grown. I’m happy to say that I think my tanks basically out of the ugly stage and finally started to get to where I want it. Here’s my current dilemma with this tank. I’ve been debating on turning this into a zoa-only tank as they seem to do great in my system and zoas are easily my favorite coral. However, I’ve been real close to adding a couple SPS sticks, but haven’t caught the bug yet luckily for both my wallet and my maintenance schedule (just 2 easy waterchanges a week). Still a little up in the air on which way I want the tank to go at the moment, but at about 4 months it’s finally starting to fill in 🙂 Here’s a little growth update: FTS (May 18->July 21): Scrambled Eggs (May 18->July 21): Hammer (May 7->July 21): 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted July 27 ORA Pearlberry from a local reefer. After researching since I was like 12, maintenance, and spending the last month making sure my tank was ready for it I decided it was time. The guy I got it from has been a great source of information on sps. He had a few frags of this that he’s been looking to sell and decided to let me try my hand with one. Currently the plan is to keep this doing well in my tank for a month or two with my current water change schedule. I’ve got plans for eventually making the top section of my tank to eventually be all sticks (dosing equipment/supplies already lined up if this goes well). (Gonna try to get some better pictures once my cameras charged) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted July 27 Some better pictures of the Pearlberry (definitely true to color): It's only been in my tank for a day now and its easily my favorite piece. Really hoping I can do well with it. Quote Share this post Link to post

Really hoping I can do well with it. This is PRETTY. Absolutely love the colors. I'm trying to fight the SPS bug, you're not helping! It's been in the tank a few days, how's it doing? Also, what's your lighting schedule like? Could just be my eyes, but I really like the darker look your tank has going on. Keep crushing this! Look great so far. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BearTheSquare Posted August 1 @minimal I was trying to fight the sps bug for a really long time. I have a local reefer that I always buy zoas off of and his tank is SPS dominant. I’d always ask him about it when I’d go to buy, but last time he offered me a piece to try and it’s one of my favorite acros so I couldn’t pass up 😂. I’d say it’s doing well so far, but I don’t really have much to base it on because everything online about ORA Pearlberry differs. Mine currently gets decent PE in the afternoon/evening, but not much before that. I’ve just read that if it’s not losing color then it’s doing fine (mine hasn’t lost color since adding which is giving me hope). My lighting schedule is pretty blue heavy once I’m home from work, which is normally when I take pictures. I’m pretty sure it’s called “Jamaican Reef” if you’re in the Facebook group that has all the presets. Here’s a screenshot of the schedule for reference: Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm just adding the first corals to my tank today, and I already wanna go grab some sps. will keep my eyes out for this one. And sweet! I have that downloaded to my prime, will toy with and see what I can get! Quote Share this post Link to post

BearTheSquare Posted August 2 I love tracking the growth of this zoa 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Daniel91 Posted August 2 Scrambled eggs taking over. Same in my tank lol 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
billygoat Posted August 3 That's some super nice growth! Everything in there looks very healthy. This tank is already beautiful, but I have a feeling that in about six months time it is going to be a jaw-dropper. 🔥 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I’m hoping I can squeeze in the corals I want before I let it grow out. I’m excited to see it all grown in and matured, but I’m gonna be bummed out once it’s full and I won’t be adding new things as often. Might have to set up the dwarf seahorse tank my girlfriends been looking into around that time (definitely for her and not for me to enjoy 😂). Quote Share this post Link to post
