i really like that shot^ 😄. Is the pearlberry just losing some of the pearly-ness as it grows? It sure grew quite a bit. Nice to have old pics to compare to.

Having pictures to look back on is so nice when you aren’t sure how things are doing in your tank. It’s the first acro I’ve ever gotten so other than stuff I can find online I really don’t have much to base health on.

I’d say it lost a little bit of the purple, but also I took that picture on my phone with a filter and edited it so I really don’t know how true to color that was 😂

Added 4 bhergia Nudibranchs to the tank from reeftown. Now time to wait and hope they take care of the problem so I can start adding some corals to the spots that are overran with aptasia 🙂

Order I made from the Cherry Coral live sale today. Going to pick up 2-3 more tomorrow and I think that will be the most I can fit on the zoa rock. I'm really thinking about turning it into a zoa only/dominant tank, possibly keeping euphyllia in the upper portion.

Got the zoas in today and they look even better in person. Going to attempt to get some good pictures of all of them, but I just can’t stop staring at these CB Latin Lovers (which ended up having more polyps than I expected):

I like those a lot....... and I’m not a big zoa lover.

Got a polyp lab lens and I’m liking it so far. I’m trying to figure out the best time of day to get pictures with it though, because it works well under Antics but not under normal day light. If anyone has one that can chime in that’d be awesome. The quality is really, really nice.

Still my favorite zoa:

Acans seem to do well in this tank and grow about two new heads a month. Really makes me want to start an acan garden:

Not really too much of an update, but I was up late last night and saw two of the six bhergia in the tank munching away on some aptasia. When I added them after New Years they were only about a half inch, possibly a bit smaller. I’d say the ones I saw last night were at least an inch long it was actually pretty crazy.

I’ve counted maybe 12-15 different spirals of eggs so I’m thinking in the next couple of months I might be aptasia free for the first time in this tank. Hoping not to jinx anything by saying that, but I’m much more hopeful with these new bhergia. I highly recommend salty underground as my last time, because my last order from a different provider didn’t even last an hour in the tank/came in the size of pods. Pretty crazy difference!

A little over a year since I started this tank. I haven’t updated this thread in awhile, so I took some shots tonight.

First day the tank was moved to my apartment:

Preparing to move the tank again next weekend. Last time I moved it was over a year ago before things filled in. Any advice on moving the rocks that are grown over with coral? Separate buckets? Or just try to place the rocks safely stacked in one. I’ve read StevieT’s article like 50 times but am still debating what will be best.

5 rocks in total, 2 grown over with coral.

I'd transport them individually, each in 1.5-2 gallon bucket.

if you can't or don't want to, i'd try to wedge them together on the no-coral side of the rocks so they don't move in a 5-gallon bucket, cover with tank water.  you may need two buckets here still.

Thanks for the response. I think splitting them up will be best, now I’ve just got to find some smaller buckets and get to planning. Just wondering, do you think I should keep my sand bed or replace it when I make the move?

Most home improvement stores should have 1-2 gallons buckets, don’t forget the watertight lids that match your buckets. What I have done on tank transfer:

  • remove rocks to bucket(s)
  • add water from display tank to cover everything
  • I would only keep the display tank water down to about 1-2” above sandbed.
  • This tank has been up and running for over a year?  So there’ll be plenty of nasties under the rocks/in the sand. I’d either ditch the sandbed completely or do a deep clean/rinse the sand thoroughly after you removed all livestocks. You can determine if it’s worth the cleaning, once the livestock is out.
  • I’d prepare at least 5 gallon of newly mixed saltwater once I get to the destination, as you may have to discard more of the water used during transport, or loss thru spills, etc.

good luck. Hope to see an update after the move.

That’s about what I did last time minus the sand bed rinse, but it was only 1 month old at that time. I’m going to be moving it again in August, so I’m thinking ditching the sandbed and then re-adding in the fall might be the best solution for now. I figure that’ll make the move easier later on anyways.

Sucks with this pandemic going on or else I’d be staying out in my apartment. I’ll definitely try to document the process and post an update after.
