Jozefs a lizard
I have a biocube 14 with upgraded LEDs and a wave maker which does 144 gph flow. I have 4 coral colonies which are thriving The corals are Red Cap Monti (doubled its size in 4) Recently got an uknown stylophora which was in a low flow tank in Petco and got it for FREE (started growth on a new branch) Duncan coral (is growing 3 more heads) a yellow birds nest coral (also doubled its size) my cuc is 4 hermit crabs and an astrea snail. And centerpiece is a domino damsel I'm looking for 1 more easy to keep coral as I don't want to push the bioload. Any Ideas Quote Link to comment
MrObscura
Corals don't add bioload, people have picos with 50+ corals. And as for flow, you should aim for a lot of random flow everywhere in the tank, it's good for pretty much all corals and they all pretty much appreciate it. Your flow BTW is very low flow. flow in my nuvo 10 ranges from 60-100x. It sounds like youre new to the hobby? I suggest doing a lot of research. 1 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
144 gpg is only 10x flow rate. That's really low. Not all corals like high flow and not alot likes very low flow. A lot of lps get destroyed by high flow. That being said, 10x turnover is lower than average. 20-30x is average for softies and lps. Sps which is what you mostly have need 50x + Gph is a guideline. Proper flow is getting movement everywhere, no dead zones. Keeping things suspended in the water column to get filtered out, providing proper movement for the corals and food to the corals. It also provides good gas exchange as you need surface water movement. You will need to either upgrade the pump to avoid a powerhead(you can add an rfg nozzle or spin stream) or a powerhead needs to be added. 1 Quote Link to comment
