Justind823
If I can get in with this then I might be down. Pretty close to the standard 2.5 - I just can't go back to a rimmed tank 😟 and I don't want to remove the trim... Edit: Just finished reading through the whole thread. Sounds like this might be a possibility 1 Quote Link to comment

Frag Factory
News from the UK I've found a tank! It measures 31.5cm x 13cm x 18.5cm This in the inferior inches unit is 12" x 5" x 7" roughly We're losing out slightly on size but it's much closer to the spec of our American friends. I'm not sure it's glass though... I shall have to inspect in person at the weekend. They are available for £15 (with gravel and filter... ?!?) from pets at home: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/fish-tanks-and-cabinets/aqua-town-kids-aquarium-with-filter-12-litre?orderBy=3# 1 2 Quote Link to comment

wetsocks
Well it is a fishtank contest and not a home fashion show lol. I don't think you guys have thought through how this is going to be judged. (Forget the different classes unless you know you have enough people.) 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Friendly
yeah, let's just get this party started! everyone...chime in again on the following so Chris can collate all the info easily: - how big a tank we should use? should we all be the same or should it be anything up to a maximum capacity? - should the filter capacity be included in the tank volume cap? - should there be categories/themes? examples? - should there be a budget cap, if so, how much? - should there be a limit on equipment? Friendly
- how big a tank we should use? - 5 gallons or less, no specific size - should the filter capacity be included in the tank volume cap? - no, & sumps aren't allowed - should there be categories/themes? examples? - perhaps, idea's like types of gardens, or species only tanks (zoo;s or paly's or gsp or nem's, etc) - should there be a budget cap, if so, how much? - yes, $200, excluding cost of the tank - should there be a limit on any equipment? - no, but if spare/on-hand equipment is used, subtract from budget at 75% of current value (it's used equipment) 1 Quote Link to comment
kimberbee
-how big a tank we should use? 2.5 gallon or equivalent - should the filter capacity be included in the tank volume cap? small hob filters only (or similar), no sumps - should there be categories/themes? examples? most creative, biotopes, cheapest/smallest budget, most colorful, strugglebus, international - should there be a budget cap, if so, how much? no - should there be a limit on equipment? no 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
To me, I wonder what everyone's thoughts are on filtration: Canister filters Internal filters Protein skimmers Reactors Hand built filtration (HOB, internal, AIO, etc) Or should we try to keep the tank natural with only an optional HOB filter? Would this restriction help level the playing field? Thoughts? 1 Quote Link to comment

I do like the KISS system for pico's. it helps make them less intimidating to the new comer. edit - though, if we have enough participants, perhaps we can add categories...such as specific tank sizes and one that doesn't limit the equipment used, to see who can come up with the most vivacious pico when using technologies. 3 Quote Link to comment

At such a low volume, water changes are going to be 10x better than protein skimmers or reactors. 2 Quote Link to comment

Keep the hand built filtration (hob, internal, AIO) the filtration should be KEY into classification or category for the contest the rest can be scrapped the size restrictions would be 5 gallons (Total system volume) or less Quote Link to comment

I like the idea of the HOB filter as stated hiding equipment in there is key...…..who wants a small tank with a bunch of equipment in it ? Why no AIO ? they do make some small ones now.
