The two frogspawns are super pissed and for some reason the tank is running hotter than it should. May have to break out the controller thingy again. Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Ugh not so happy updates 😢 The temp seems to be stable now with the emergency heater I got. The water is no longer cloudy and the fish are all fine. Even the tile starfish is fine. But. Both frogspawn frags are gone. And the pectinia. The acan is still angry, and the blue flame favia, so I hope they pull through. The Montis and leptastrea strangely are happy 🤔, as is the baby’s breath favia glued to the baffle to the AIO chambers. I wonder if it stayed more stable there, temp wise because of the flow? At any rate, three corals lost, one of them not cheap. But the bulk of the tank is okay. Very narrow escape 2 Quote Link to comment
Saltysheep
Damn sorry about the losses. This reminds me to check my heaters I think they are getting old. 2 Quote Link to comment

Yes this one was three years old. I guess they should be rotated out more frequently, and I should have checked the water temp more diligently. 🤦🏽♀️ Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
Heaters terrify me, hope everything that's still upset from the swing bounces back, really sorry to hear about the few losses. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks. Unfortunately that’s two corals with a most likely third, and the star fish now. 😫 I was really pulling for him but he kicked off two legs yesterday so I don’t figure he’ll make it. SUCH a bummer, I really liked him and he was doing so well. The fish are all fine, and all of the other corals are fine, except for the paler, larger colony of GSP. So far it’s being the holdout on bouncing back for some reason. The heater never exploded nor did it leak- I checked it after I pulled it and found no cracks. It just ran away with the temp and boiled the corals. Thank god I was home to catch it. If I’d been at work things would have been far far worse. 1 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Tank is slowly recovering, and the chemistry has been stable. Still tweaking the new heater to where the corals are all happy- the lighter GSP on the right side of the tank has been opening but not fully. Today it is fully open as I type this. Lost the tile star, the shrimp, the pectinia and one frogspawn frag, while the other is ragged looking and may or may not recover. Thankfully the gold torch survived- small things. As yet am unable to replace the inverts and the pectinia as I haven’t seen the stars in stock, nor is the pectinia. And I’ll wait for a shrimp until I have a whole order to place. But at least, the tank is recovering. 4 Quote Link to comment
DevilDuck
I'm sorry about the losses and I'm glad to see things on the mend. Heaters have always been time bombs, I feel the ones made recently just don't have the same longevity as those made a decade ago. Did you get a heater controller with the new heater? 1 Quote Link to comment

I have two extras- a finnex and an ink bird but for some reason with the Evo, they never work right. I’ve decided to just swap out heaters more frequently. Like I said the one that went bad was three years old, so maybe I should swap them every year or every two? I never have understood why but the controllers don’t work well with my Evo 🤷🏻♀️ Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
So haven’t updated this since I got the synopsis together. Not much has changed but I do have some fresh pictures, and the good news any fish parent wants to hear - Mr Goby Doby and Snappy 1 finally met up and became a pair!! Now MGD stands guard to the huge black holes Snappy 1 makes under the rocks. He still hates me coming near the tank and like to posture and chuff at me. I wish I could read their little minds to know what he’s saying under his breath to his buddy when he sees me. “Hey watch out the ugly giant is back” “Hide bro that creepy pasty giant thing is back staring at us again!!” Who knows. At any rate, I’m please that the grafting of the montis, leptastrea and cyphastrea to the walls is continuing at a pretty good pace. I look forward to the day when it’s covered in gorgeous coral and forms the whole back splash. Still haven’t gotten around to replacing my lost pectinia though that’s on the to do list. Still haven’t decided about adding a second light or not, mostly because of the bracket situation. Need to figure out how I could make a two light holder before deciding whether that’s even a good idea, rather than just buying a Hydra 32 instead. Decisions decisions. PICTURES! Now granted there aren’t many because Interceptor doesnt like people much and hides when the camera comes out, and MGD disappears into the bat cave now. So really it’s just Billy and Dilly that love to have their picture taken. Billy Dilly Red goniopora Golden torch Dragon soul torch St Thomas and rainbow ricordea mushrooms 4 Quote Link to comment
ECLS Reefer
Updates! Tank is doing great! Billy and Dilly moved to the 120g and are consolidating their harem there. The new clown pair is Harvey and Katrina, the hurricanes, a mocha and orange storm pair. Harvey moved from the 5g successfully and Katrina was purchased for him to pair with, and so far they’re doing fabulously. Added in 5 sexy shrimp and they’re also doing well- I think they like the room and coral varieties to roam over. Also added a harlequin pair to deal with the exorbitant number of asterinas that have taken off in there. They don’t come to the front of the tank much which is a disappointment. Also new is a skunk cleaner. I’ll try this one more time and if he doesn’t make it, I’ll stick to sexy shrimps and pistols. Snappy 1 and Mr Goby Doby are quite the pair these days and fun to watch. New face is a tailspot blenny, named Blenda Lee Johnson. Very active, good eater and takes no crap from anyone. Added two new gonis- a blue and a green. Hopefully will fill in the end of the tank some and give the clowns a bit more to host in the future. As for lighting, I took the AI Prime HD puck from the 5g and @Cannedfish’d it into a two light bracket over the tank, so there’s quite a bit more light. Otherwise, same old, same old in there. Now, pictures!! New light fixture arrangement Full tank shot with lights Harvey and Katrina Katrina looking at herself in the mirror Harvey Interceptor Harlequin having a snack Harlequin Sexy shrimp pair Rainbow monti encrusting on back glass Blue/green leptastrea encrusting on back glass Blue goniopora Utter chaos A little full tank cruising and introducing Blenda Lee Johnson Some slow mo red goni A little sexy action Harlequin having a snack 2 Quote Link to comment

It and the ricordea are problem children about tank placement. I tried gluing that St Thomas to rocks and it wouldn’t have it so I put it in a medicine cup but it climbed out and decided to plant itself on the OUTSIDE of the medicine cup. So the ric is inside the cup. It’s the biggest ugly feature of the tank and I can’t get rid of it 😞. Silly mushrooms. The St Thomas has grown too since I got it, from Corals Anonymous 1 1 Quote Link to comment

They've always been pretty good for me. I stick them in as low of flow as I possibly can. I'll have to check out Corals Anonymous if I decide to get one again! Thanks for the tip 😊. 2 Quote Link to comment
