EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Anyone know why my scoly changed color? I know I already asked, but it got pushed back by other comments. And also, I’m really considering getting a 2.5inch colony of birdsnest. I think it would really fill in the tank. It’s also one of the easiest sps, so I thought that it would be best if I stuck to the easiest of sps instead of going for the acros. I’m not gonna get any acros till I get Hanna checkers for everything and I get a automatic doser. I want to get acros, but I don’t have enough free time on my hands to give to my tank for them. I think I’m gonna wait till I get to college and I get my dorm room tank. I think I’m just gonna get a biocube 16 gallon. My LFS sells one for $199.99. If you’ll have any other suggestions for a dorm tank, just throw them out. I would love something like a Red Sea or innovative marine, but idk how much those costs to be honest. Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Red seas aio isn't worth what they are asking. Their tanks in general seem to just have complaint after complaint on other forums. IM10g isnt expensive. Biocube is most dorm friendly though as long as your dorm doesn't get hot. 3 Quote Link to comment

My dorm doesn’t have air conditioning, so that could be a problem Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I think I’m gonna actually participate in this months photo contest, but what picture should I use? What’s most popular out of these tentacle pictures? 1 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
You would think that I would’ve gotten used to my levels of stupidity by now, but nope, they go beyond even my own imagination. I was doing water param checks tonight and I was testing alk and I found out that I’ve been doing them wrong for the past year. I was supposed to be subtracting the number that I get at the end from my initial amount which is 1.0ml. I just now realized I was supposed to be doing that. So every time that I thought my params were low, they were actually high. So after testing again after I found out I screwed up, my calc is at 470ppm, my alk is at 9.5dkh, and my mag is at 1460ppm. Everything seems good except the alk is a tad high, I would like to lower that. I was wondering why my sps had burnt tips and I found out why. I thought my alk was at like 7.0dkh, but this whole time it was actually high. Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
I mean 10dkh ain't really "high" lol, I love that shot of the red acan, 3rd from the bottom, myself. Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
3rd from bottom up for pics, the others are fuzzy. 1 Quote Link to comment

I’m planning on doing a water change hopefully tonight to lower my alk down. Bc my problem was that I tested my alk first and I thought it was really low, so I added some alk raiser to the tank last night, but after I added it, I found out that it was actually high not low. The 9.5dkh was my alk before I dosed, it’s probably close to 10 now. 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I also finally got some colonies that I have been wanting for a long time. I got a 3.5 inch red monti cap colony and a 2 inch birdsnest colony. I wanted to stick to the easier sps, bc my monti spongodes is doing really good and I’ve noticed growth. And I love the way monti caps grow, I’m hoping that I can get it to grow upwards instead of out super far. They are supposed to be here Wednesday, so I gotta get my alk down before that. EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I only paid 75 for both of these colonies. I thought that was a great deal. The birdsnest is a really bright neon green. I’ve actually never seen a birdsnest like it before. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I need some help real quick if I can get some. My carpet nem for some reason has been really small and really light colored recently. I feed my nems once every 2 weeks, sometimes every week. Could he be wanting more food? I feed him cod mostly Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Anyone have a comment on my carpet nem? Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I did a pretty decent sized water change last night to try my best to lower my alk. I did a 25% water change. I’m not home right now, but I’ll test when I get home. My alk was at like 10.0dkh, but it could’ve been a little higher. Anyone have a guess what my alk could’ve possibly dropped? I’m trying not to drop it to fast either tho. Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
It's math to find out exactly how much it dropped, (current alk) * (percent water not changed) + (alk of waterchange water) * (percent water change). Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Or I could just test my alk when I get home to see what it’s at😂. I don’t know what my waterchange alk is at. It’s instant ocean salt mix Quote Link to comment

Oh, probably not then. I just did water changes for no reason then😂. How should I go about introducing my sps to my tank? Like my monti cap and birdsnest are being delivered today, will 10dkh kill them? Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
If I just keep my alk stable at 10dkh, will my corals do good? Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
Stability is all that really matters. 3 Quote Link to comment

Ok thanks, I’ll just try to work on doing the same percentage of water changes each week, and I’ll test my params more often 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Got some pictures of the new additions😁. I got a neon green birdsnest, a red monti cap, and a freebie that they tossed into my order. They wrote on the package that it was a different type of birdsnest, but it honestly reminds me of a pocillopora coral. I had the hardest time gluing that monti down, I ran out of superglue. 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
And here’s some pictures of other stuff. I thought this hammer frag was dead, but nope, there’s at least 2 or 3 heads still left. Also you can finally see that my jawbreaker is getting some purple lines on him. And why does it kinda look like he has a bounce bubble? And then a picture of the Haitian nem. 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I had to put the glue putty over some of the monti, will the monti grow back over that area? 1 Quote Link to comment
