EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I was just about to do an update. I finally got something to test my phosphate, it’s not the best bc it’s an api test kit, but it works for now. My phosphates are between 2.0 and 1.0. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I have also started to mix some reef plus whenever I feed. The tank seems to like it. Everything’s doing pretty good, even jerry. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I’m also considering changing Jerry’s name to riptide, bc his claws can rip through almost any food I give him😂 Who likes the name riptide? Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Yay Jerry! Beating all the odds... Mr Jerry Riptide? You could always grow some decorative macro to bring that PO4 down. 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I’m sadly not home at the moment, but I will hopefully get some pictures for everyone later Just now, Tamberav said: Yay Jerry! What kinda macro would look nice? I would go with something easy that won't completely take over. Gracilaria hayi (that little frag I sent you). Halimeda Codium Red Blade Macroalgae In the sand: C prolifera and C cupressonides (won't spread as aggressive as other caulerpa or be likley to go asexual, I would still keep them in the sand bed though, these are fast growers and will eat up a lot of nutrients). Dragons breath is nice but a bit difficult and moody in some tanks. 1 Quote Link to comment

And why cyano keep coming back. I have a sneaky suspicion your sand bed might be an issue. I actually got fed up with mine and got rid of it😂 2 Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Forgot to mention, tuxedo urchins and Mexican turbos can eat the macros but pretty much all the other snails are fine with the more complex macros. While some PO4 is important, LPS corals typically hate PO4 as high as yours and it probably explains the slow growth. Your tank may benefit greatly from a good growing macro as export. Yes, I was about to say something about that. The macro that you gave me was attacked by my turbo snails and all that’s left is some small pieces. I put it in my second tank to hopefully grow back. I’ll check out some macros and see what I can get. Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Ya you might have to trade in the turbos for some trochus or something else in order to keep most macros. Something like Halimeda trubos can't eat but not sure how much nutrient uptake it does. Quote Link to comment

EthanPhillyCheesesteak
I just vacuumed the sand bed, so it’s a little murky, and the water is also a little low, but I’m getting more water tonight. 1 Quote Link to comment

I didn’t want to leave it in the tank bc it would make my ammonia and phosphate and everything rise. I didn’t want to risk to see if he would make it. He was pretty much a goner. There wasn’t much left of him. I think that it was my po4 levels. I heard that hammers do not like a high po4. My alk was fine, so it had to be the po4 1 1 Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
Also question, my lfs just got these in and she swears on the Bible that they eat algae. She said that the company that she bought them from told her that they do. But I’m not so sure. Can I get a quick ID? I really like the white one a lot, but I need an ID. Quote Link to comment
EthanPhillyCheesesteak
They also had a huge ass clownfish that someone gave to them bc it grew too big for his tank. And I mean this thing is a giant. I’ve never seen a clown this big. The pictures don’t do the clown justice He’s much bigger in person 1 Quote Link to comment
Melfy77
Of course we notice! Reefing is not an easy hobby! We all need help every once in a while. If it's any consolation I tried a torch and a frogspawn in my previous tank and failed big time. My PO4 levels were good though. I am now trying a hammer hopefully I will have better luck😂 For me I cannot keep ich/velvet out of my tank...my fish are showing signs and since we have no copper available in Canada there's pretty much nothing I can do now but wait and hope. We all have our challenges/difficulties when keeping saltwater tank 😉 2 Quote Link to comment
