serico858
Hey everyone so I am not exactly new but its first time trying this method out of cycling a new tank and been out of the hobby for a bit. SO I am using the dr Tims one and only and ammonia system to cycle my 20 gallon all in one tank . I followed the directions and added 2ppm ammonia, the next day(day2) I tested and just had exactly 2ppm ammonia and nothing else. today (day 3) I did all my test and my results are as follows ammonia- between 1.2-2 closer to 1.2 though nitrite- 0.5-1 Nitrate- 5-10 so I am pretty confused because yesterday I only had a reading on ammonia but now today I have a reading on all 3 but my ammonia lvl has stayed the same. I guess I just don't know what to do next. I only have dry rock and sand in the tank with some marine pure blocks in the back so no livestock to worry about. I know ammonia is supposed to rise then drop following by a rise in nitrites followed by the rise in nitrates but thats not what has happened lol Quote Link to comment
Clown79
This is the normal process. Ammonia is processing that's why you are seeing the other numbers. Cycles are odd and never quite the same for all. All my tanks have had different experiences. http://www.drtimsaquatics.com/resources/fishless-cycling Here's a full instructions from Dr Tim's. Hopefully it can help 2 Quote Link to comment
blasterman
Is this more of the bacteria in a bottle stuff? It can take days for the bacteria in these products to ramp up from a dormant state and start the nitrogen cycle. Quote Link to comment
Mido
Off topic was just wondering if dosing carbon speeds the process? Quote Link to comment
blasterman
Carbon feeds anaerobic processes. I'm pretty sure it want budge ammonia/nitrite eating bacteria. Just be patient. Quote Link to comment
