akish5
A couple years ago I was going to start a 125 gallon build and never had time to do it. I final have it set up now and just finished the plumbing. My question is, I bought about 8-10 bags of live sand when I was originally going to start the build. The bags say best by 2018 but have never been opened. Is it safe to use these bags still or do I have to throw them away ?? Quote Link to comment
Clown79
If it was me, I'd wash them thoroughly before using. 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
I have some bagged live sand that's over 10 years expired. The sand is fine; it's just the bacteria that isn't. Like Clown said, rinse it well before use and it will be OK. I'm actually in the process of (rinsing and) drying my old bags of sand out. There is no use keeping them in the bag wet at this point. 2 Quote Link to comment
Jesterrace
Yup, just rinse well and recognize the bacteria is long dead. It doesn't matter much though since the only bacteria that really matters is what establishes itself in the live rock. 1 Quote Link to comment
