I you can build one, I'd say build it yourself so you can program it the way you want it. I know how you IT guys are, you buy the Apex and bitch about how this should be different. 😄 Do it the way you want.

I ended up not buying the apex. It had to much wrong with it to justify the price tag.

However, with the rising cost of corals. And lack of new selections. Ive been debating switching to freshwater. With all my equipment and frags. I could easily set up a cichlid tank, or even mostly fund a planted tank.

Tank has been chugging along nicely. Despite my last post, I was over ruled. Lucy (age 4) does not want freshwater fishies. She wants to keep them till they grow old.

That means 14g water change today. Current parameters to follow shortly

Fiasco of a w/c:

didnt have the extra 10 minutes to test water parameters.

clown got stuck in the siphon tube (so i had to cut it out)

spilled atleast a gallon of dirty tank water on the floor

and the skimmer decided to foam to high holy hell.

But, the change is completed

Update

Duncan has sprouted 4 baby heads. Coraline algae is starting to explode.

Monticap has almost completely encrusted the 1.5" plug.

Another w/c was performed yesterday approximately 11 gallons (was the last of my 160g io bucket). Yes, i use plan ole IO. Another bucket comes in saturday.

Picked up 100# of base rock. I will be slowly adding it into the dt and sump over time.

Current parameters

Nitrates <5ppm

Sg 1.026

Phosphate 0.1

Temp 80.5

Wow!

It was a busy summer.

Tank is doing just fine.

Felt like there wasnt enough flow from the single vortech mp10, picked up a icecap 1k. Both are run at 100% random mode/reefcrest.

Took my skimmer offline, I never got to the amount of fish I wanted. Never could get it to skim correctly for more then 4 days. Not enough poop. So in storage it goes till I have more fish.

Current parameters

Sg 1.025

Temp 76.8

Nitrates <5ppm

Po4 0.1

Now for the photo dump

Next project on the chopping block will be redoing my plumbing, and pump upgrade.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the mag 9.5. It does its job, I just want more controllable oomph. Looking into DC return pumps that have flow ratings of 1500gph or so. Probably getting 600 with the mag 9.5, which is fine for a return. But not enough to run a recirculation line and a reactor.

I  suggest a Jebao DC6000 if you want one in the 1500 gph range. I have a gen 1 that's been in service now for 8 years, it was the first DC drive pump I bought.

Reasonably priced too.

I must be doing something right. What that is, I have no idea.

Over the last week or so, the one orange line chromis started being extra territorial over a particular section of the tank. I chalked it up to weird fish behavior. Woke up this morning to what I initially though was a baby carpet nem. Nope! The chromis laid eggs.

It's a shame the other orange line passed months ago. Would have been a treat to raise fry

Grats on the new toy! Also very cool little egg patch 🙂 My Filefish recently laid eggs as well and she went from a little passive nice girl to one tough mama!
