How’s my bird doing?

It's polyps aren't fully extended. Has some loss of flesh(white area)

It either needs more light(depends what it was under originally)

Or more flow. They like turbulent high flow

Birdsnest are very sensitive to alkalinity changes as well. Probably the most sensitive of all sps. Mine is always the first to TN when I have fluctuations, but they recover quickly if you stabilize it.

OP if this is your first sps I suggest you try something easy like a montipora cap or stylophora, they are pretty bullet proof, mine always grow 24/7 even during tank issues when other coral are dying.

I think this pic is better, the one you posted is kinda grainy.

I would guess the white at the bottom is from the superglue. I think it looks okay, as clown said, polyps retracted a bit but I know you just got it and it had a rough ride out of water it sounds like? It is probably still acclimating, birds can be finicky.  While they are tolerate of nutrients and different lighting, they seem more picky about alk swings than acros.

If you are looking for more SPS, I have found mint pavona and green psammocora very hardy. ORA has them both.

Yes I just got him. His color looks ok but that other side is white. Polyps look extended a lot on the left side. He got broken during shipping.  He is in  turbulent flow. Top of tank.

I got two monti caps with this guy. The months look good and polyps extended. The stylopora I got died due to bad shipping/ being out of water when I got the package.

If the other side is white but still has polyps on that side, it's probably just the side that is shaded or some such.

Do you have alk/ca/mg kits? Red Sea or Salifert are nice.

No, I just have basic test kit.

all parameters are good

as for mg ca I will check once I find a good brand at a good price.

i use natural sea water from aqua medic.

Alk is 100% the most important parameter to be tested regularly. Lps and stony corals use it and both don't do well with fluctuations.

Corals also use ca and mag but weekly testing is enough for those.

Salifert, red sea, or hanna are the best kits out there.

I’ll be sure to pick one up. Thanks.
