Hey guys

Well I am getting my first RFA and was hoping i could get some tips on best methods of adding it to my tank.

What's the best practice for success?

When I had the White Witch I didn’t even acclimate.......the bag was so gross I just put it straight into my tank.

Ya I would too. Keeping anything in nasty water for long is just not gonna have. Positive outcome.

I've never had an anemone and someone I know is trading with me for my birdsnest.

I've always loved RFA's so crossing fingers I have no issues.

You should be fine. 🙂. Sometimes I think of getting another but the “blending incident” put me off them for now. lol

No RFA experience but would assume they are similar to maxi's.  I usually shut down the pumps and add them to the spot I would like them to settle.  Give them 15 minutes or so and they will usually attach, at which time I turn the return pump back on.  Maybe another hour and I'll flip the wavemakers back on as well.

Then I watch them move wherever they want, despite my best effort to place them 🙂

This is how I do it.

I also try to make a little divot for it in the sand (down to the glass if you can) next to a rock. They’ll grab hold very quickly if you do that.

Good luck! Let the obsession begin!

There’s lots of info on the RFA appreciation thread btw.

I’ve also got over 100 now (including all the babies) so happy to try to answer other questions you have.

I've got 4 minis, most for about five years.  Never had any move more than a couple of inches until last month and now one is doing laps around the tank while the other 3 just stay put where I left them.

I got two new ones about an month ago that just can't seem to find their "happy place".  I ended up having to rescue one of them after it parked itself under a completely shaded ledge for 3 weeks.  The other just keeps going in and out of a cave.  Every morning I do my RFA search.  They are entertaining little creatures.

I have one that did the tank tour. One hasn't moved since day one and the other two move about 6inches either direction.

I'd you acclimate to water quality, acclimate it in the bag.  They hold on fast and tight like most nems and it's easier to get their foot off a smooth flexible plastic vs a bucket or hanger.

Thank you all so much! Great help.

Now to decide to drop or temp acclimate

So I have a little clear container that I use for new arrivals. I dump the contents of the bag into the container and I clamp the container in the tank to temp acclimate. Then in the tank they go. I've done it 4 times now and no I'll effects.

Here is a couple of mine😀

I have been eyeing them for yrs.

They are some of the most beautiful pieces of living art in this Earth.

I know I will get one and want more!

Yeah they are 😀 My wife actually got me addicted to them. I think my 20g will eventually just be a rock flower tank. That's still a little ways away but I'm going to be getting another soon.

Can't wait till you get one 😁

I just added my first one this past week and just like a lot of people have already said just turn pumps off for 15-30 minutes to give it time to attach itself. I just got home from work and mine just moved after being in the same spot for 4 days and I can’t find where it even moved to. I temp acclimated mine and then used a turkey baster to add tank water to the bag until it was double the volume and then in the tank it went.

Nothing worse than spending money on a gorgeous creature only to have it move out of view 😑 it'll settle and im sure it'll come out. My most recent one moved under one of my big ones. Stayed there for week and then came out.

Thanks. They were from rarereef, who was doing like 10 for $200 shipped. But then they got shut down for scamming and illegally harvesting from reefs....... so my current go to recommendation for RFAs is GotCorals

Haha I’ll definitely be watching for it, I was expecting it to move out of view when I got it so was able to grab at least a picture first. Now the waiting game begins.

What's the deal with gotcorals? I noticed they had good stuff and prices a few months ago. I went back 5his weekend to look at making an order and they only had like 5 corals🤔.. is there a certain date they load new stuff on their site?
