My DIY AI Hydra 26 Diffuser

Hey all, just thought I’d share my diffuser I built for my hydra. So far I’m very happy with the reduced shimmer and color blending.

Still need to do some heat testing along with par readings.

Feedback welcome!

Well, it definitely looks sleek! Do you think the heat from the lights will cause any problems?

I'm running some tests today but didn't notice any difference in temp between the two. I may add more vents in version 2.0 🙂

It looks really tidy, is it all made from stacked acrylic sheets?

Yes!

So tests are in. I still would like to try to cut a new styled diffuser to increase cooling, but as it stands now these are results.

Temperature - increased by around 10 degrees F

Par - Decreased around 10%-20%

Verdict.....I'm ok with both of these and will be rocking them on my 52's!

Looks good. I ended up removing my diffusers because it turns out they were reducing PAR WAY too much. Without the diffusers I was getting 325 PAR middle of tank. With the diffusers, it went down to 150 PAR, same settings, same spot in tank. I may try again later, but with thinner and less frosted material.
