I wonder if you could just not target the babies, or if you can scrape them off during water changes or something? True purple star polyps are extremely hard to find, LiveAquaria has them on Diver's Den now and again. I tried to get a frag over a year ago but never succeeded. Tanks look very nice! Oh, if you still have the EcoSphere--you can actually open it and put the shrimp in a small tank/container of their own. I have a small (1/2 gallon maybe) bowl with some glued-together rock rubble and a plastic plant for biosurface and the dozen or so shrimp I put in there seem to be multiplying! My understanding is that toxins sort of build up in the EcoSpheres and they gradually starve to death or die from waste buildup. Thanks, @Lula_Mae! Yes, I do target feed the suns but I also swirl the food around the tank with the powerhead after the target feeding, so the whole tank gets tons of food. Scraping sounds like a good idea to try. I’m feeling like this could get just as extreme as the tanks that get overrun with Xenia; there are so many tiny orange dots everywhere! Yeah, I’m thinking these “purple GSP” are probably not the true purple star polyps, though the shop where I got it from does carry some pretty amazing corals. I do still have the Ecosphere. 🙂 I had read that the shrimp can live many years in them. I believe the ecosystem was designed based on research done by NASA (but perhaps I’m just gullible and fell for their advertising, so don’t quote me on that). I’ve only lost one of my four tiny shrimp so far because he sadly got crushed when I was doing maintenance with the tiny cleaning magnet. 😢 I do really like the idea of rehoming them if things look like they are going downhill in the sphere. I would have to break it open though - it’s a fully sealed glass sphere. I’ll have to reasearch that further! Are your little shrimp from an ecosphere? If not, what type are they? I’d love to see pictures... do you have them posted? Quote Link to comment

I got them from a guy on ebay who also threw in some little snails (still have one of those too). Petshrimp.com has them and some brackish chaeto and moss ball type things (don't have those yet) and some snails. They also have a forum where I learned a lot about caring for them. If you look at Natalia's reef bowl thread, she has an Opae ula bowl she's posted pictures on there. There are also threads where people talk about liberating their shrimp by opening (I think at the bottom where it's sealed). 1 Quote Link to comment

You’re keeping us all in suspense for way too long!!! 🤔🤔🤔 Oh by the way, can you tell I mixed my drink a little too strong when I was doing my daughters water change on her tank tonight?! It’s so boring... I just watch her do it all haha!!! I should probably avoid posting stuff right now, but that wouldn’t be any fun. 😳😬🤣 Will be posting updates this weekend. But happy to report in advance that Frogspawn has one new head and candy canes finally splitting into 5 from 3 🙂 The joy is inexplicable!!! 1 Quote Link to comment
banasophia
Well I thought I would post a couple of updates. First of all, my bigger bubble tip nem in my Nuvo 10 decided to go on a walkabout through the tank yesterday... looks like it has settled for the time being. It was nerve wracking watching it travel through the tank, wondering what would happen as it touched the corals. Things are a bit shriveled, but I’m hoping they will all pull through. 2 Quote Link to comment
banasophia
Also, based on recent posts in the chaeto light thread, along with the fact that the chaeto has been growing pretty slowly in my copepod cultures, I ordered a new grow light for the cultures. At first I was going to remove the white LED strip, but it’s very hard to see the pods with the red & blue only, so I added the white one back. Will post an update once I see how it works out. Also, those plate corals look amazing. 6 hours ago, banasophia said: It looks like those have a built in timer? If so that's a great option. Keep us updated on how they work out. Yes, I hope the BTA stays put there! 🤞 And thanks about the plates. ☺️ I really love plate corals... I’d like to find another small long tentacle plate for my Biocube. They bring nice movement to the tank like BTAs and torches, but the sting seems to be less of an issue. My green one can touch my acans without any problems that I’ve noticed. The light has a built in timer, but I wish it didn’t because it seems to be one where you have to switch it on manually every time then it shuts off after a certain period. I’d rather have it just be on or off and have it run off the the timer I plug it into so I don’t have to remember to switch it on every night. But... I haven’t really looked at it too closely yet, maybe there’s a way to set it so it is always on. Will keep you posted. 🙂 Quote Link to comment

banasophia
I can report that the Polyp Lab Coral View Lenses work! Though it’s a little like using a magnifying makeup mirror... sometimes you don’t really want to see all those details!!! The sun coral spawn and hydroids are everywhere! 6 Quote Link to comment
