banasophia
So I went from a couple aiptasia to a pretty major infestation over the course of about 3 weeks and decided I’d better take action as they are spreading quickly and seem to be affecting some of my corals. Previously I had been able to wipe out the few I’d seen with aiptasia x, but the last time I used it, it didn’t seem to kill the aiptasia, and the next day my sinularia wilted and still hasn’t perked back up (it has aiptasia at its base, so it was directly exposed to the aiptasia x). Anyway, having ruled out further use of aiptasia x, I considered a peppermint shrimp, and I’d love to hear people’s experience with them, but I decided to try Berghia Nudibranchs first. My order arrived today, and they look cool, but they are tiny... curious to see if they have any impact on the aiptasia population. 2 Quote Link to comment

I've read good things about Berghias, how many did you add? 1 Quote Link to comment
spectra
The nudis should work as I dont think you have anything that will eat them such as a wrasse. IT may take a few for them to breed but once they do they kill kill them allk then wither away as there food source is gone..... Have a few friends that have had great success with them. i wanted to try them but the fish would eat them. 1 Quote Link to comment

They recommended 4 berghias for my tank size and infestation level, but the shipping cost was sky high so I ordered two more and a couple snails to reach the free shipping amount... they ended up sending me 7. Those little buggers are $$$ so I hope they do their job! 1 1 Quote Link to comment
markalot
Belated grats on Featured Reef! Berghia's radically reduced my population but they all died out before finishing the job. Peppermints also worked well, but my Basslet likes to eat them. :D Quote Link to comment
Wyatt45
My Berghia's didn't do anything that I can tell. looks like I flushed 75 bucks really. On another note, what method are you using to keep corals adhered to the rocks? I have them routinely falling off or maybe a snail has knocked them off. Anyway, I routinely come home to see corals in the sand. I've used reef glue, the putty stuff...etc etc. Quote Link to comment
Sancho
Berghia’s have worked for me in the past but as spectra mentioned once their food source is gone they melt away. I’ve been using aiptasia X on the biguns...and my peppermint shrimp does a pretty good job of keeping them in check. I’ve finally been pretty aiptasia free a few months since I added the peppermint shrimp. 1 Quote Link to comment

I haven’t seen the berghias since I first added them, but it seems maybe a couple of the aiptasia have disappeared during the night, so hopefully they are doing their thing while the lights are out and didn’t just wither away already or get eaten. 🤞 On 3/14/2019 at 11:13 AM, Wyatt45 said: My Berghia's didn't do anything that I can tell. looks like I flushed 75 bucks really. The spider sponge gets knocked off all the time, but other corals stay put pretty well unless I knock them off when cleaning the sand bed during water changes. 😬😳😂 On 3/14/2019 at 5:48 PM, Sancho said: Berghia’s have worked for me in the past but as spectra mentioned once their food source is gone they melt away. Yeah, if the berghias don’t work, I’ll probably try a peppermint, but I’m worried that if it gets into mischief I won’t be able to get it back out again. I’ve tried several times to remove my cleaner shrimp, but there are too many escape routes. Quote Link to comment

billygoat
Gosh what a gorgeous tank. Love the sea hare too! Do those have a reputation for getting sucked into filter grates and powerheads, or is that just nudis? 1 1 Quote Link to comment

I’ve gotten them in the past to eat the hydroids in my tank, and you really have to monitor their food source closely and return them to the LFS or rehome them if they eat up all the algae/hydroids unless you find something else you can feed them. I’ve never had any luck feeding sheets of algae, but some people are successful with it. I haven’t had any issues with them getting sucked into filter grates or a powerhead, they are pretty big. 2 Quote Link to comment
