banasophia
@Tigahboy, I know you mentioned you’re trying to decide between the ReefLens and the Polyplab Coral View clip-on. They have different features, and are both great. I like that the PolypLab one has the additional yellow lens, but the ReefLens has the additional wide angle lens. The big difference for me though is the macro lenses... ReefLens has stronger magnification. I like both, they are just different: No clip on, just my iPad: Polyplab: ReefLens: 5 Quote Link to comment

Ah, thanks... well two things probably affected those pics - I have the lamp on right now next to the tank, and also I think the beauty lights were just staring to come on, as evidenced by the fact that the dendros are starting to look glowy. Lights start out with blues, turn to beauty lights, then whites, then back to beauty lights, blues, then off. I usually don’t have to use a filter during the beauty light phase, just get a natural glow to many of the things that are orange or red (except the chili, interestingly). 1 Quote Link to comment

SliceGolfer
Great photos and comparison between the clip lenses. Are you using any specific camera app, or photo editing? I’m looking to take better photos, like the ones you posted. White balance is always challenging. 2 Quote Link to comment

I’m not using any kind of app, but my iPad is an iPad Pro so I think it has a pretty good camera. One thing that makes a big difference is aiming it at different things to see what gives the best white balancing/contrast as you snap the picture. So... for a comparison, I just took two pics to see if it’s just that the iPad Pro is extra good, but both look pretty decent to me, in fact I was pretty impressed with the iPhone 6 pic. I used a tripod for both shots, no filters. iPad Pro iPhone 6 1 Quote Link to comment
Sancho
Wow those look amazing. You can see a slight more detail with the iPad but both look great. What light setting is on for those pics? Mine always look blue when using my iPhone. 2 Quote Link to comment

Yes, that’s what I noticed too.. a little more detail with the iPad, but both pretty good... gave me a lot more confidence in the phone. My lights are on daylights (whites) at this time of the day. 1 Quote Link to comment

Are the lights LED or ? in that hood Bana ? I have the same issue my iphone sucks and just does blue pics...... Ok just looked page one factory LEDs.......probably not to many and like the Current light that was over my 14 you can run them with no blues..... Quote Link to comment

I think they’re pretty cool actually, once you know a good way to set them... took me a while to figure them out. There are three phases and you can run them separately, or overlapping. Mine are set to overlap, so just the blues come on (and ramp up) first, then the beauty lights (sunrise) kick in as well and ramp up (and I keep it in this phase longer, cuz it’s the prettiest IMO), then the whites come on too (though the blues and beauty lights are also still on at the same time, it just looks white though). Here’s my schedule again for any Biocube owners reading this that may want to try it out: LC1 11 AM - 9:00 PM LC2 10 AM - 9:30 PM LC3 6 AM - 12:30 AM 3 Quote Link to comment
banasophia
So I was out of town in Seattle on business the last few days and missed photographing my tank so much I had to take some nature pics instead. It’s an interesting change in my mindset because I stocked my tank with a lot of corals that reminded me of flowers, but now that my interests have really shifted to reefing, I’m enjoying plants that remind me of corals. 🙂 And then last night, once I returned home and went out to the store, I had to pick up this gorgeous shooting star hydrangea to plant in my yard... I love it cuz it reminds me of my pipe organ coral: Also, of course I worried about my tanks the whole time I was gone; I even had a nightmare that my Biocube crashed and my mandarin died... thankfully I returned home to find that all the fish were fine. However, the glass was covered with algae, the back wall had tons of cyano, and the branching dendro, a mushroom, and part of the sinularia had all fallen into the sandbed. I cleaned the glass, added my NOPOX (which hubs hadn’t been adding cuz he couldn’t find the pipette), and did an extra water change, so hopefully everything will be back on track in no time. In the Nuvo 10, the ATOs power was switched off, but miraculously even though there had been a lot of evaporation, there were no microbubbles yet and everything looked fine in there. 7 Quote Link to comment

I was out of the scenes for quite some time as I was traveling + took some time off in December. I'll share some updates very soon! Again, kudos to you on your tank. It is indeed outstanding ❤️ 1 Quote Link to comment
