21 days after setting up, my cycle was complete. I introduced lighting.

28 days after setting up, I had yet to see any diatom bloom. I added a Red Banded Shrimp and YWG Goby. Unfortunately, the goby did not make it - we had a serious heatwave in Los Angeles, which led the tank to hit 87-89 degrees for a couple of hours. Mix this with an already stressed newly introduced Goby and you have a bad cocktail. I found him a couple of days after, dead.

Around a week ago, the diatom bloom hit (yikes) -

Ordered a full CUC and they have been munchin' away since yesterday.

Strangely, I have not seen/heard Luke (shrimp) since the newest additions were added. I guess he is shy.

Doing a larger water change tomorrow. I plan on picking up ONE coral this weekend. We'll see - I am in no hurry, the tank has only been running for a little over a month.

Add a yellow watchman goby for the pistol shrimp to hang out with. Then you'll see him popping out from the caves around your rock work, with the goby. It's pretty entertaining, not gonna lie haha

Looks good! I'm excited to see this once you start adding corals. Good luck man 👍

Thanks, man. As I mentioned in another thread, I ended up grabbing your recommended fan. It sure does the trick!

The scape looks clean and the black substrate is great, which coral do you think you’ll be getting first?

Thanks! Some people, including @Clown79, has had quite the troubles with it but I really enjoy the look.

I am hoping to pick up a green trumpet and/or a Ricordea.

I loved the look but after 5mnths it became a real nuisance. 5 months of trying to fix it and in the end I had to remove it.

No issues since.

The cat is thinking,  "OK, now you have to put me in the tank, fish dinner here I come!"

Ha! After seeing his face expression when he sniffed/licked some leftover SW on the refractometer a few days ago, I am pretty sure he will go no where near the aquarium again haha.

I picked up a YWG today - hopefully this one survives.

Acclimated for an hour, all parameters good and stable. Cross your fingers, people!

I wanted to pick up a coral but I think I'll end up online ordering a few from AquaSD - great selection right now.

The picture is a few days old, but he seems to be thriving. Parameters are stable, he recognizes turkey baster as a food source, and while still shy, he comes out to look quite often.

I browsed some LFS today for corals. Unfortunately the selection was not the best or the prices cranked up. I decided to place an online order and have a Duncan, Torch, Blasto and a hammer incoming on Friday! Suuuuuper excited. Gives me a few days to pick up dip, glue, coral specific containers etc.

I've had the black sand for the better part of 8 months now. No issues that I can directly attribute to it. I do have some gha, but it's on the frags from a bad lfs.

Good luck with the tank

I think you'll be really happy with those LPS corals.  You should've received them by now.  No?

Nope - Friday. Scheduled for later delivery because Tuesday/Wednesday did not work well for me receiving. Excited though!

We have corals! This was the first time I have touched a coral, let alone acclimate, dip and re-frag. I am pretty sure I did a horrible job but I know it'll get easier LOL.

The Blasto is still angry.. Sorry for the quality and please ignore the diatoms in the back :s
